If anything, we need the expanded Binaural.

Not to derail, but this is an endlessly fascinating subject to me. I don't think I could ever argue convincingly that my fandom hasn't profoundly clouded my vision of Pearl Jam, and/or any number of other artists whose music I've loved and followed closely for a long period of time. I think this could be a really enjoyable thread premise, not necessarily just in regards to PJ, if people were interested in having the conversation.
Regardless, I'm a big fan of "Parting Ways" (and "Habit," and "NAIS"). All of that stuff is right in the PJ sweet spot for me.
start the thread. ill bite

Binaural was such a good era, the outtakes really are great.

Binaural used to be my least favorite album until Lightning Bolt came out. I don’t care for the first 3 songs at all. Evacuation being the worst. Not a fan of the production too. However, Binaural has one of my top favorite songs, Light Years. Other good ones for me are Grievance and Insignificance. I think if replaced half of the songs on this album with some of the outtakes on Lost Dogs (Sad, Fatal, In the Moonlight….) this would have been a much better album in my opinion.

Do we know if Jeff is playing his upright bass on Sleight Of Hand?

My preferred Binaural experience is to pop Of the Girl as the album opener, replace Gods' Dice with Sad, replace Evacuation with Education, then tag Fatal onto the end of the album.

If there were ever going to be a double album for Pearl Jam, this would have been a good one. Binaural plus all those Lost Dogs would be an even better album.
I know most here seem to love Binaural as is, but I like the original track listing better. Overall though, this might be my favorite time period for the fellas.

I legit think the album is better by a lot if you just remove the first three tracks and do nothing else. If you want more rockers you can add Sad to the album (Fatal would be nice to include as well).
This is an album that actually has a lot of good songs on it but it is let down by the overall album as a whole. It's like the opposite of Vs, where some songs that might no stand out on their own are strengthened by the overall way the album is laid out and the placement of the songs. On Binaural, there are good songs that don't make much impression because they come off as filler to flat rockers.
Light Years, Of the Girl, Thin Air are highlights here. Breakerfall, God's Dice, Evacuation set the complete wrong tone for what the album actually does well (or Pearl Jam in general, IMO these are some of the worst sequence of three songs in the whole discography). And it weakens Grievance and Insignificance which are actually pretty good because it comes after those other three worse rockers that share similarities.

I still think the
originally planned tracklisting works the best.
I wasn't really a fan of the record until hearing it that way, it makes a lot more sense.

It's too long, but it has a decent flow. Parting Ways IS the closer, however. Anything different is just being too cute.

I hate the idea with ending on anything but Parting Ways. I have tried many times to retract this one…here’s a latest attempt in making this a double album though I wish Spotify had the instrumentals for me to make it even longer because Binaural is an album space to dwell in:
Of the Girl
Breakerfall
Insignificance
Sad
Nothing As It Seems
Education
Rival
In the Moonlight
Light Years
Fatal
Drifting
Thin Air
Sleight of Hand
Grievance
Gods’ Dice
Evacuation
Hitchhiker
Strangest Tribe
Sweet Lew
Soon Forget
Parting Ways

I wish they had taken those instrumentals (Thunderclap, Foldback, and Harmony) into full-fledged songs.
