When you know that your loyal voters are happy to be treated like idiots, and you haven’t got the cunning to win over literally anybody else.

At this stage any leaks from downing st or MPs are probably being orchestrated by Cummings. It’s all kite flying and attempts at sideshow to distract the media and everyone.

They blocked the Irish language? Does that mean it’s illegal for anyone to speak Irish?

My understanding is it would have done for the Irish language what the Welsh do for their’s. Give it equal status, which has a lot of impacts that help preserve active use.

Pretty much what McP said. They’re objecting to it being given equal status as it ‘threatens their identity’.

Just means street signs would be in both languages and official government buildings and documents would have to have / be available in Irish.

Unlikely you have. Even though it’s older than English by a long stretch. We’d still all be using it except they wiped it out when they were here. Forced English on us. You’d be killed if you were heard speaking Irish.

Yep. It’s the official language of the state just to mention. It’s Compulsory in primary and secondary school. I went to an all Irish school. Everything taught through Irish.
It’s taught so poorly tho. Long history going back to nuns and Christian brothers beating into kids.
Needs a revival. Not sure how to go about that tho
