Taibbi has about 1/12th of their following by himself. Impressive, but not quite there yet. He's probably a lot more profitable though.

Kind of amazing that Rolling Stone still exists after the Virginia rape thing.

I didn't really follow Taibbi until recently, but Glenn Greenwald's fall from grace has been something.

I wonder if Matty Y will ever wander too far off the reservation and get de-personed. He toys with that border from time to time.

I couldn’t handle being a doctor or nurse dealing with this stuff.

That teenage girl has a good head on her shoulder though.

On NPR some public health person was talking about the promise of vaccine passports to nudge people on the fence to get vaccinated.

Right guys, you just haven't nudged hard enough yet.

If they are able to implement a robust system that prevents fraud, we're just supposed to ignore that selective competency when it comes to voting or immigration status?

This was before the Delta variant took hold. The level of PTSD among nurses after all of this will be worse than WWII.

Hopefully you made that joke before you watched that second video.

No, I don't watch Stickman content. Generally its something I've already seen.

I am slightly concerned about nurse vaccination rates and vaccine requirements for employment. If they lose 5% of skilled nurses due to vaccine refusal, that would be bad.

It would be nice to use this opportunity to break the back of the AMA and increase the number of doctors without necessarily importing them. Nursing may have similar issues, but we certainly can't replace nurses in a given cohort if their resignations exceed new graduates.

Hmm... yes you're right of course. Let me act very solemn and contrite. As long as one child somewhere dies, no one should go outside. We have to protect the children. I defer to your benevolent and wise rule. I throw myself at your glorious feet.
I’m just saying we could do better.

Trying to dig up the link for the CDC report, but child (0-18) survival rate for COVID in Texas is like >99.99% (of detected cases) and that is without taking into account comordidities. I am in absolutely no way, at all, even a little, suggesting there is an acceptable number of child deaths... but turning every child into bubble boy isn't the answer either nor is quarantining an entire classroom because Jane had a coughing fit one day. Nationally we are going to have to have an adult conversation about how much risk we are willing to put our kids in because what we are doing now is not sustainable.

Yes, we all understand math and that the child deaths are just a blip on a grand scale. But try instead to think about a child death in the context of one school district, pretty tragic. A district in wide open Texas, where masks and other mitigations aren’t mandated of staff or students. Maybe something more could’ve been done?

The math says that if only counting Texas public school kids, ~1 in every 100,000 have died over COVID in around 18 months. And because Texas is largely incapable of thinking before reacting, the lack of tracing data means we have no way of knowing if they caught it school. And since we can agree classrooms should not be filled with hazmat suits, we acknowledge a limit exists in efforts to keep kids safe. So if we say that more needs to be done after keeping 99,999 out of 100,000 safe because that is not good enough… what then is the goal between zero deaths and what we have today that counts as safe enough?
