Yup, tried that. Woke up the next morning after it dropped, and hated it less. There's FLASHES of parts that I kinda like you know? I nod my head along a bit here and there, only for Ed to shit all over it with some weird vocal line or some boring riff. Man, it shouldn't be this hard to like a song lol.EJ wrote:Just take a long break from listening to it. Or wait till the album's released. if you hate something then why fucking waste your time? i truly don't understand this. Like, i get it for awhile, but to continually do so just seems like a waste of your own time? no?

it's been hard for me to like PJ songs since Vitalogy, I'm still here because they usually grew on meVindicator wrote:Yup, tried that. Woke up the next morning after it dropped, and hated it less. You're right, holding hope for the album and it's just a dud.

See, they've done this punky thing many times before. Whipping is a punky song, and it's fucking amazing. WWS was ripping in the car. Big Wave is a step down but it has some clever things going on. Getaway, MYM are pretty good, and a song like LB that I initally hated when they first played it at Wrigley, is actually half decently catchy.
DOTC was a strong start, not my favorite PJ song but a solid experimentation, which I was feeling a 3 or a 4.
However, I can't wrap my head around how much I dislike Superblood. The vocal style is SO generic. The opening riff is so bland. The main riff from the snippet could have been decent but all I hear is Ed wailing 'I SEE YOU IN THE DEEESTANCE!!" and other horrible lyrics like FOCUS ON YOUR FOCUSNESS. He repeats these weird vocal ticks over and over in the song that just sound so grating. Then we get to the HORRIBLE, uninspired bridge "She was a stunner!" Bland as hell riffs again. He tries to growl but it's all laughable by that point. The solo part was cool but can't save it. I've given it maybe 20 listens at this point, and the most I can muster up is maybe a 2.5, with a severe adverse reaction to the vocals on this song. If it wasn't a single, I'd have just moved on, but alas, we have to wait for the album.
I'm still really excited for the album. I'm hoping this is just a dud for me. I'm really expecting some mega cringe on some of the songs. Retrograde "FEEL THE SOUND" and Comes Then Goes with "Pete Townshend worthy acoustic agression and the lyric, 'We could all use a savior from human behavior" Lol shit man, at least now I'm finally bracing myself.

some songs yeah other are instant love. You have a song like Do The Evolution that I remember going nuts for when I first saw the video. Then there's the entirety of Avocado which maybe took me a few years to appreciate. Or a song like Who You Are that I dont really like til this day lolMs Harmless wrote:it's been hard for me to like PJ songs since Vitalogy, I'm still here because they usually grew on meVindicator wrote:Yup, tried that.
