yes absolutely; polyamory imo is really two things, and they may cross over or not: natural orientation, or practice

I personally wouldn't say I'm naturally polyamorous; it took a lot of change and growth to get me to a position where I feel it's the best relationship style for me to practice (edit: one of my partners *is* naturally polyamorous though, and never found monogamy fulfilling)

it's like anything really, we know we're gay / straight / bi / pan, regardless of what we've done with whom

I'm willing to bet more people are "naturally polyamorous" than not. And I'm inclined to think not practicing it, in of itself, makes you not polyamorous

No, being gay is simply being attracted to people of your own sex. Polyamory is the act or practice of having sex with multiple partners. It's like, you may have the urge to murder people, but because you don't act on it, you're not actually a murderer.

I think it's far more likely that modern society and culture imposed monogamy on people than the other way around; it's certainly not the default setting in the animal kingdom (though it exists, obvs)

Also, if you don't naturally have the urge to murder people, but somehow through some glitch in the matrix you find yourself having murdered somebody, you're still a murderer

being polyamorous is living open to the potential of your romantic and / or sexual relationships going beyond one partner; that's it; who I'm currently dating or not dating makes no difference; if my (hypothetical) polycule of three break up and we're all single, we haven't all become monogamous again

I have no research or data to support my opinion, but I think you're probably right. I will say that I have always tended toward and preferred monogamy, however. I am not naturally inclined toward polyamory. Though I certainly have zero judgement about it. Just my own personal taste.

Being gay does not require an act; it is an orientation of sexual attraction. Polyamory by definition is a practice.
