Once again, S2 needed a single director, preferably one as talented as Fukanaga. He really doesn't get enough credit. So much of what was great about season one belongs to him.

on top of that fantastic Grinderman soundtrack...oh baby. One of the best moments in film history right there, folks.

oh yeah, that's where I first heard Grinderman. Now I love those albums! TD1 was awesome!

I've actually rewatched the first season a couple times. Certain parts I love including this one and I always loved the scenes with Rust and his interviews with the new detectives. Sometimes though, certain things seemed rushed. Like when Rust suddenly wants to go undercover because of the tip he gets about the motorcycle gang. They made it work I guess but it seemed goofy. He was just so nonchalant about taking personal time to see his Dad or whatever. His character was somewhat new and obviously not very liked among his department and in the middle of a complicated investigation he just decides to take time off. How does that fly? Isn't there a boss to say "no you have a fucking job to do, do it or I'll find someone else to do it and you can go hang out with Dad all you want." I could be wrong but I don't remember him giving anything I would deem a reasonable excuse for that. Maybe it isn't that important of a detail but I know I'm not the only one here who lets little details like them bother them. Also, on another note the "SIDS" scene and the "if you get the opportunity you should kill yourself," makes other people laugh too right?

I'm rewatching the first season now. He said that his dad had leukemia and was dying, so I think a boss would accept that, especially if the lead detective on the case (Marty, who knew the truth) OKed it. And the "you should kill yourself" line feels like a punch in the gut, not a laugh.

Maybe I'm just sick and yeah I must have just forgotten the leukemia which makes the post totally pointless. Guess I'll need to watch it again. I just remember something just feeling awkward about that part of the season but I'm forgetting some the same details I'm bitching about.

HBO has officially announced season three of True Detective, with Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali set to star in the lead role.

Due to arrive in 2018, the next installment in Nic Pizzolatto’s acclaimed crime anthology will tell the “story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. The premise will no doubt draw comparisons to Netflix’s hit series Ozark, which was recently renewed for a second season.

Pizzolatto will write and direct the forthcoming season alongside Jeremy Saulnier (of Green Room fame). Deadwood creator David Milch also aided in the forthcoming season’s creative process and will himself direct the fourth episode. Pizzolatto will serve as showrunner.

Ali’s character is named Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.

Further casting details will be revealed in the coming months. Matthew McConaughey, whose season one role as detective Rust Cohle earned universal acclaim, has expressed interest in reprising the character, but it remains to be seen whether Pizzolatto will take him up on the offer.
