Speakers. Seeing the TV just made me think about it, the tube is probably better shielded or something.

Oh wait, this is the vinyl thread.

Look, its about being both. Im gonna bring my marantz in and I like it to look sleek and vigilante. Clutter stresses strat out.
I'm with Strat, I think it's about both looks and performance. I recently had this little Rega Brio amp in my main system and it kicked ass. It's rated at 49 watts and it clearly outperformed my vintage Marantz. I even considered keeping it permanently in my main system over my McIntosh, based on the de-cluttered simplicity of the Rega. There is no headphone jack, or even tone controls on this thing...because it just sounds so good!

Another option is something like this Cambridge (also from the UK). While I've not heard it personally, I've read positive reviews:

Your vintage Marantz could probably get you $200-$300 and that would cover the Cambridge, or cut the cost at least.

Just my 2-cents.

I'm putting together a new kallax tonight! :-o Finally going to get the turntable off the top of the receiver.

Before I do, though: how tough do you guys think it'll be to take apart a vintage receiver to replace some light bulbs? Anything I should be especially careful about?

Where will you be putting the receiver? Mine is a kallax and i like it a lot!

I've heard good things about that Rega. I could then at least put that down in a shelve and keep it less cluttered on top. Do speakers hook up to that with regular speaker wire?

The turntable and the receiver will both be on top of the kallax, they just won't be piggy-backing each other. Just don't want the heat leaking into the turntable. It's a 4x4, so the top two rows (8 boxes) get to be my records, then we're installing doors and drawers on a few for office-y stuff. It's gonna be a blast.

We went IKEA crazy this week after signing our lease. We got another kallax for the bedroom TV, a new dining room table, 2 chairs for the table, a coffee table, and an end table. We're actually going back next week for 5-6 more chairs, maybe a desk, and maaaaaybe another kallax to act as a console table. Yikes.

Ive thought about getting a 2x2 to place on the side just for the turntable. Or possibly receiver. Gives it a little bit more aesthetic and help de-clutter. Me and the lady friend are otufitting our new apartment as well and will be heading to ikea!

I'm about to go buy a 4x2 kallax. I already got the expedit set up for the record player but I can really maximize my closet storage space if I put a 4x2 kallax in there.

We had the 4x1 on our cart (for $59.99), the we saw that the 4x2 was only $64.99. Kind of a no-brainer.

Join IKEA family; it's free and there are sales every month. Last month we got the 4x4 kallax (usually) $139) for $119.

Stupid question... Do Kallax and Expedits "fit" together? Like are they the same depth if you were to stack them or put them side-by-side?

Not a stupid question, I've wondered it myself. I don't have any put together right now to compare, but I did some research on dimensions:

2x4 Expedit: http://www.amazon.com/Ikea-Expedit-Book ... xpedit+4x4

2x4 Kallax: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50278482/

The Expedit's dimensions are H: 58 5/8; W: 31 1/8; D: 15 3/8

The Kallax's dimensions are: H: 57 7/8; W: 30 3/8; D: 15 3/8

So do with that what you will.

Yeah, that drives me mad. If you need to use the plural, I much prefer "records".

Yeah, records or LPs. I don't even like using vinyl in the singular.
