I didn't watch the game, but from what I'm reading it wasn't an easy one to watch for Broncos fans. I'm completely surprised. I thought this was a lock going the other way. I knew Luck & Co would make it interesting, didn't expect a blowout, but the Broncos were/are the better team. Sounds like they just didn't play like it yesterday.

For a while now I've said that I whoever won Ravens v Pats would be the AFC rep in the Bowl. I'll stick to that. I think the Pats best the Unicorns.

The NFC match-up is way harder for me. I think both teams have what it takes. I'd RATHER see Rodgers v Brady OR Luck v Wilson. Since I think the Pats will win the later game, I'll root for the Pack in the early game. Plus a very great friend of mine is a Packers fan, so why not. But I voted for the Seahawks in the poll because they're a tough beat in Seattle. Just like the Cowboys v Packers game, I think either team COULD win and both teams are good enough to make the Super Bowl, I just have to pick the home team. So, Go Pack and Go Pats.

But I think it'll be Pats v Hawks.

Hawks repeat. Which... WHAT? But that Russell Wilson guy kinda knows how to play football, huh? And you know, best defense and all of that. Defenses win championships, etc.

Also, Peyton will be back.

Properly? Didn't they list him on the report with a thigh injury? I don't think there's an issue with reporting it like that.

That's insane.

I think the NFC wins regardless of who makes the big game. Mostly because I think it'll be Seattle that makes it.

I voted NE-SEA, but I won't make a SB prediction as a lot of that depends on injuries.

For example, NE lost Stork in the Baltimore game. Stork is the rookie starting center who really helped solidify the protection for Brady in the middle of the season. His status, last I checked, was unknown. Rumor was a sprain MCL.

Manning has spent the last three years using his mental gifts and touch to overcome the gradual depreciation of his physical strength. Not surprised to see it finally giving out on him. What he's done has been nothing short of amazing and we should all appreciate it for what it is: one of the generations greatest athletes absolutely fucking raging against the dying of the light.

It's funny because while Jim Nance was creating that poetic "send off" moment for Manning, all I kept thinking was that there's no way he's going to retire. Strikes me as a fierce competitor that will play another season.

Agreed. He is a fierce competitor. As long as the injury isn't more serious than they're letting on and it heals normally, which it should.

But also:

2. Manning - 69,691 yards

1. Favre - 6,300 completions
2. Manning - 5,927 completions

I appreciate all that Peyton Manning is an has been. He's been a guy who has really written his own book as to how the QB position should be played, he's an impressive commercial success as his own brand. Interesting guy and all....but the lack of success at the end from College to now will always bother me about his legacy. The one Super Bowl feels to this Braves fan, a lot like the 1995 World Series. (His Rex Grossman to our Cleveland Indians) Yay... there's one, but why so many misses? I guess it just depends on where you stand as a fan as to what sort of history you want to read for him. Sportswriters can't get enough. He's really in his own class. Maybe similar in some ways to Marino or Kelly, but not really. He got his team to the precipice of greatness so often and just couldn't quite finish. I'm not trying to slight the man, he's done the job as well as anyone ever has really.... it's just that in the US.... it's the finish that matters more or seems to matter more than any other part of the journey, and the finish seems to be the only thing that has consistently eluded Manning for most of his football career.

This said, I wonder what the legacy for Elway would be without the final two cake toppers, Manning could still come back and conceivably win one more and really punctuate his amazing career.

It will be interesting to see what happens as his next chapter as well, what he wants to do next. Would he coach? Would he run a team.... It just seems like there are so many possibilities for him that don't involve just hanging up the cleats.
