I think the best news we have about this is that BoB is *not* playing on "River Cross", so we shouldn't have a "Future Days" scenario

I actually liked (what I assume is) his keyboard line in the climax of "Lightning Bolt"; to me it had a slightly cringy but ear-pleasing 80s Springsteen charm to it; I can imagine that's as bad as it'll get

I'll actually take "boring" over show-stoppingly embarrassing; as long as there's no "Supersonic gone and took my soul / I caught a rabbit but my cock was slow", I'm happy; so I'm hoping "boring" is just "unassuming" here; if it's solid but doesn't try to draw attention to itself, that will be good and even refreshing at this point

I'm excited about background noise / ambience, as well as the possibility that those might cause the tracks to run together; something like the animal snort type noises before "Rival", and we know we have water / ice already; those little auditory flourishes were always archetypally Pearl Jam and I've missed them
omg is that actually the lyric?
I don't believe it is
without doing a full-on search, I feel like I remember theplatypus posted something along the lines of, “I caught the rhythm but my cock was full.”

yup

I can't help *almost* liking "Inside Job"; the lyrics are just *too* abstract and... blah, for me

haha it's definitely not the lyric, I've always just heard "I caught a rabbit" and the actual lyrics aren't any better

Yeah, a lot of my favorite Pearl Jam songs would sound pretty boring if I only read a description of them in a review. Not worried about that one, yet.

The final act of the album is particularly ruminative, starting with the hazy lope of “Buckle Up,” a dreamlike Stone Gossard composition. With a lilting guitar line reminiscent of R.E.M.’s “We Walk” and Eddie Vedder in full reverie, plus a part where background vocals and guitar fuzz mimic a horn section, it’s sneakily one of the weirdest songs on the album and should pleasantly surprise fans of middle-era Pearl Jam.

oof, wow, yeah

also "Take The Long Way" is sounding more and more like something I need to hear yesterday

I was worried that those songs or "Never Destination" would be this album's "Supersonic" but that's becoming less likely; I know I'm repeating myself but if SBWM is Ed's only chance at punk self-indulgence we're fine, imo

Often times pearl jams music has come at the exact right time in my life.

Thats why its hard for me to relate the music to others in manner that is devoid of intense fandom attachment.

The above review makes me think this album, once again, may be coming at the exact right time for me.

I hope so.
