Going home was good. The family is doing good. Middle brother is making money. Dad is enjoying semi-retirement. Mom struggled with the funeral, but she was in better spirits later. Even the stepdad seems to be making money to take care of my mom and little brother. Hopefully it's not from a scam or something.
Takes the pressure off me for awhile, so I can fuck up a little.

A few of us school dads are having our inaugural pub night this evening. Will be interesting to socialize in a different setting than pickup or swim class.

Should I even bother nurturing these friendships, knowing it’s inevitable our children will ruin them for us?

I don’t sneeze often, but every time I do now, it gives me a headache for a few minutes. This has been a new development in my late 40s. Not a fan.

Had a small malignant melanoma cut off my shoulder this morning. Gotta go back in on Monday to get back final pathology and have a larger "just in case" chunk taken out. This better not fuck up our Spain trip or I will be righteously pissed.

You do some fishing in a singlet, right? Like have your shoulders been torched for decades or what is going on there? Melanoma terrifies me as someone who loves to spend hours at the beach.
I wish you well, brother.

I don’t like hearing this. I love sneezing and hate headaches

Tradies have been here all day fixing this and that, so I didn’t have a chance to call my mom on her birthday. Well I did, but she was out at a noisy Mexican place with my sister and others celebrating, so I should be off the hook and will call her tomorrow.

Cheers man.
21 years in the sun in Broome with fair skin. I almost always wear fishing shirts these days but that certainly wasn't always the case, although I wouldn't say I was constantly torched, no. I worked inside and the sun I got was weekend sun, occasional burn but nothing that memorable.
I started going to get checks at the dermatologist a few years ago and this time he decided to biopsy one spot and turned out I'm bloody glad he did - it surprised him even!
I'd definitely recommend getting annual checks. Melanoma is our (Aus/NZ) national cancer, is it not? Can't be too careful.
Its funny as I actually got a calendar notification as my initial appointment was starting - I'd forgotten all about it as its an annual thing and not urgent or anything. I was thinking of just letting it slide till next year but I picked up the phone and rang to apologise and they fitted me in a week later. And here I am a week after that having an insidious little fucker cut out of me. Glad I picked up that phone rather than waiting on it a year and giving it plenty of growing time.
Life's weird.

You're the man for picking up that phone. A mate of mine had a gnarly mole cut out when he was just 19. Like that shit will creep up on our whiter-than-rice asses.
Keep goin' on, brother. Love your work.

I've have never liked going on tours to see something guided..went to John and Pauls boyhood homes in Liverpool this morning..it was Ok..learned a few things I didn't know before...was able to strum Paul's acoustic and hit a few notes on the family piano..but to be clear, I love the Beatles..just not my thing
