The final act of the album is particularly ruminative, starting with the hazy lope of “Buckle Up,” a dreamlike Stone Gossard composition. With a lilting guitar line reminiscent of R.E.M.’s “We Walk” and Eddie Vedder in full reverie, plus a part where background vocals and guitar fuzz mimic a horn section, it’s sneakily one of the weirdest songs on the album and should pleasantly surprise fans of middle-era Pearl Jam.

If “Dance Of The Clairvoyants” isn’t quite a red herring, it’s also not exactly indicative of what to expect. Pearl Jam sound more adventurous than they have in close to 20 years on Gigaton, but this is not their synth album or any other kind of holistic overhaul. It’s still a latter-day Pearl Jam album, of a piece with its immediate predecessors even as it sometimes spiritually recalls the middle years.

I really love an atmospheric ballad ending if it's done right; I think my biggest musical desire in recent years is to have my heart, rather than my face, melted - hence my love of "Sirens" (though I know they can do better than "Sirens")

One of the best-written reviews I've read in a while, that Stereogum one...
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Parts of a song were recorded in an old sailmaking loft in Ballard
Part of “Take The Long Way” was recorded at The Ballard Baitshop, which is local producer Nathan Yaccino‘s studio that was once a sailmaking loft. Yaccino has previously worked with Cameron on Soundgarden material and has worked with Lemolo as well, which might be how Megan Grandall got involved with the track. Yaccino is also credited as an additional engineer on the track recorded at his studio.

awesome

That thing about having the first backup singer ever, does Neil Young in Long Road not applies?

I like the vocal comparison to Hard Sun, one of Eddie's all time great performances. When he goes there he is magic

and I'm pretty sure there's a female vocal in an early ballad but I can't remember which one
