It’s a baseless leap, made not because it is likely, but because the author wants it to be true.

Which is why it felt like the right response to “we're all expecting a full on constitutional crisis in '19.” Because:

A. Yes we are.
B. It’s easy to let that assumption guide our interpretation of current events, which is why it’s best to set it aside instead.

I feel like the phrase "constitutional crisis" is getting thrown around a lot, too, without consideration of what it actually means. If Trump gets impeached, that's not a constitutional crisis--it's how the government was designed to work. If Mueller files charges against Trump and Trump sues and the Supreme Court rules that the president cannot be charged with a crime, that's how the constitution works.

We'd need something to happen that's not outlined in the constitution, or for an institution or person to act outside of their constitutional duties with no repercussions, for it to be a crisis.
