This thread has made me wonder how it is to live as a member of the zoom class. I know them, live among them, but apparently I don't 'get' them.

Aussies: "We've still got a fair bit of freedom. These measures are for our safety. It's just a minor inconvenience."
I'd save up my rations and then get rip-roaring drunk just to spite them.

Those that have the ability to work from home for the duration have an entirely different set of incentives and tradeoffs regarding covid restrictions than those that didn't. Continued promotion of said restrictions seem correlated to certain neuroses that working from home in the pandemic appear to foster.

I have a vaccinated buddy who didn’t want to disclose his status to his employer because he didn’t want to be called back into the office. Commuting from NJ into Manhattan is a bear.

We all have our crosses to bear. For 9 million of us, its living in New Jersey.

I can't even imagine what would happen here if they restricted alcohol like that. Seems like a good way to incite protest and end political careers.

The 18th Amendment has entered the chat.

Okay?

The shorthand "zoom class" is to point out that the people driving pandemic response have effectively no skin in the game.

Not saying there's anything inherently wrong with work from home, but this demographic basically drives all Democratic Party policies and they seem quite content with Covid restrictions forever.

you mean people during a pandemic would much rather not come together in a crowded elevator in busy buildings would rather not have to deal with that and work from home instead? the audacity of these people wanting to remain safe.

but i guess you wouldnt say the anti maskers arent also driving the republicans policies?

How is this a boogeyman? Some people are intolerant of risk and they haven't had to bear any of the downsides. Its rational self interest.

You're in IT. Pretty easy for you to rationalize doing everything through a screen.
