Looks like you were listening to ...Like Clockwork. Looks very reminiscent of the album cover.

I like it!

The fun thing with these tracks is that I can imagine a younger version of this band playing them. In my head it sounds pretty awesome and it just re-enforces to me that these are good songs.
Seriously, picture a younger Ed singing these with the delivery and vocal abilities he had 15 years go.

I agree. To me they're not 'trying' anything. They just sound older.

I thought it would be could if they made a music video for LB in which a skeleton man tangoed a lady-in-red type of girl in a room full of mirrors while the walls of the castle around them collapsed and turned to sand

Kevin Davis wrote:A big thank you to the kind soul who sent these to me.

First impression is that, while none of these songs are without their minor virtues, there's probably not much depth or potential for surprise in them either. In a lot of respects the songs just feel...I don't know, unremarkable, competent but unimpressive pieces of obligatory product from a group of people who just don't have that much to offer each other anymore. I think that's maybe the most disappointing thing for me about these songs (and probably "Backspacer" too), the way the individualized voices of the band members seem to be lost in this nonspecific wash of readymade blandness, the sound of five people whose creative paths have long since diverged reverting to a "mode." They've become like old college friends who used to stay up until the wee hours of the morning, driving wherever the road took them, enraptured in each others' company, having deep conversations about the meaning of life; now they meet up once a year at Panera and talk about their office jobs and where to get the best deals on homeowner's insurance, which lasts for about 30 minutes before giving way to a deafening, awkward silence.

I'll hold my final judgment until the album drops, but at the very least I don't think these songs travel well. The remaining tracks have some heavy lifting to do.

from the standpoint of the people who like these songs, I think you hear the college friends who found ways to still talk to each other without having to reminisce about being in college

Although I like these songs, I understand the critiques of those who don't.

So a question for KD and others who aren't fans of this stuff.

Do you see what the people who do like them find appealing, and it just doesn't speak to you, or are you baffled?

I haven't even heard the songs and I don't understand why people like them.

LTPR's 5 stars ratings are baffling.

Swap 1 and 2 for me and we're right on the same page. SW really is amazing. I can't get enough of it. I hope Sirens captures that same feeling that the bridge in SW has.

Here is why I like them:
Less Poppy
Fewer "hooks"
More Developed
Better vocals (performance)
Fuller sound
More prominent guitars
Better lyrics so far
It kept some of the light heartedness and energy that I enjoy from Backspacer and improved on all of the qualities that I felt brought it down.

Because I'm not interested in listening to some shitty sounding leak 4 weeks before the actual album comes out like you guys?
