That makes a lot of sense, and it would be delicious.
The concept would be pretty easy for this hardliner Republican cabinet to sell to president everrich, and his bumbling ass would be on the campaign trail saying things like "We're looking very hard at some really good things. Beautiful things, where you've got people who have thirty, forty thousand dollars in their 401k. And they can't touch it! They're saying, 'but I've got this debt!' But we're gonna fix it, folks. We're gonna open it up. And you're gonna be so happy. So happy."

That’s why it’s so delicious. Looking for a message he can use to bring more people into the fold, he will instead land on exactly an idea who’s audience he already has, and trampoline off that into saying things that are wildly unpopular.
One thing I’ve been pointing to for a while now, whenever people handwring about the idea of Trump getting reelected, is that in the last election he could say pretty much anything about who he was or what he wanted to do. There was no political history there to demonstrate otherwise. He was an ex-pizza mascot and an extra in Home Alone 2. He could exist in that fact free environment, and very serious minds would play along and debate only on the
theory of what he said he would do. The businessman says he’ll fix everything. Great.
A big part of why 2018 went so badly for him is that he doesn’t know how to bring people in, or really how to campaign at all, once that freedom is gone. He didn’t know how to spin his first two years in a way that convinced people that maybe it would get better, or maybe it was good all along. If he had said in 2016 “we’re going to get rid of all your student debt,“ and explained nothing more about it, then 65% of the country would have polled as believing he could do it. He’s Donald Trump.
Now, the number would be 37% for the exact same reason. He’s Donald Trump.

The Democratic Party right now:
1. A mostly young, activist class with massive grass roots organizing power, an aggressive online presence, no patience, and an almost completely rewritten agenda.
2. An increasingly moderate and intransigent old guard who are more comfortable attacking far left ideas than they are taxing the rich.
3. A remarkably large group of parasitic, often powerful people who recognize the opening that the divide between groups one and two creates, but don’t understand what it means or how to exploit it.

I am still not so sure that the public is so far off these “crazy liberal” ideas (at least the base of the ideas without too far of a discussion into the rabbit hole). Democrats just lack adequate salespeople to make the ideas more palatable. They need someone who can say, for instance, I believe unapologetically that everyone is entitled to good health care and access to medicine as a human right. Exactly how we get there needs to be negotiated with everyone, but we need health care for everyone as a uncompromised value. It doesn’t take a moderate to say I am willing to talk to everyone, listen, and work toward the best solution. Far left should understand that all or nothing is as perverse as what’s happening now in the other direction, but moderates should understand that standing for nothing doesn’t win you elections. There needs to be somewhere in the middle of those two things.
