There really aren't any good studies on this stuff. "Just trust me bro" is not normally the standard we use for medical interventions of this sort.
Exactly. In the US puberty blockers are not approved to use for GD, so they have not gone through the same multiyear review process that other medicines have to in order to prove they are safe for the use case in question. What Singal is saying, which is the same as the NHS is now saying, is that we don't have enough data to be sure... which is obviously the truth. Most of the studies done are on precocious puberty(PP) as that is what it's approved for here, which is a different use case. In PP the drugs interfere with the development of some amount of secondary sexual characteristics (varying by dosage and by patient) so the brain can catch up to where the body is. For GD it would be different as the brain and body are in sync and the drugs are disrupting the natural state, allowing the brain to get ahead of where the body is developmentally and you cannot 'reverse' that once it's been done. That's why the 'pause button' analogy is bullshit, because everything is still moving forward except some amount of secondary sexual characteristics (varying by dosage and by patient).
I don't disagree. But when we get into how do those concerns translate into voting, it becomes important to point out that the Republican strategy is to attack people based on social issues, and then when the Democrats defend those point, wail about how the Democrats are wasting all of their time on social issues that no one cares about.
That has an impact on how people feel when the pollsters call them.
Yup.
I'm not aware of a single red teamer that has stated an objective position on this, it's all 'groomers' this and 'MAPs' that, no willingness to even allow for the possibility that though there are risks, for some young people struggling out there it's the right choice.

that sounds similar to the situation here, yep
monitoring the things we don't know but going forward with what we do is just... science bitch!

I thought its stated purpose and efficacy was a "lie" that needs to stop?

they are a pause button on secondary sex characteristics, their main stated purpose for trans people
the NHS has stated it doesn't know everything about its long-term effects, but to the above? no change

the point is to add that this medication, like all medication, should not be taken without the understanding of possible risks

I am on estrogen, also taken by cis women on the menopause; if I stopped taking them, all of their secondary sex characteristics effects would wear off, except for breast growth

detractors of this type of care for trans kids don't care about their mental health, they only care about not wanting kids with / without tits

It's a statement that most physicians and scientist believed was true, but we're now finding may have been an overstatement, but maybe not.

I'm not against finding out and responding to new information
I am against publicly pushing back against something trans kids need, and are being given with success, using inflammatory language implying that trans activists are lying about it
