The vocalist from The Sword sounds like the guy from Crash Test Dummies if he weren't doing the fake-deep-voice schtick.

Those two are definitely top tier but Nobody Cept Me and Pretty Saro would be up there with them.

I like the EP that followed -- "Elena's Tomb" I think it was called. It felt like an appropriate appendix to "Source Tags," treading the same sonic waters but fleshing them out a bit. The proper follow-up was horrendous -- a tremendous letdown.

"Pretty Saro" is insanely good -- how it managed to escape release until 2013 (and to my knowledge it never circulated on bootlegs either) is either a testament to the depth of Dylan's well or the ineptitude of his label, if not a little of both. Definitely among the top tracks to play for folks with the "Dylan can't sing" complex.

"Nobody 'Cept You" is a great, infectious little song that lacks a definitive recording -- the studio takes are all tentative in some way, and the live versions from '74 are in poor audio quality. As a song I prefer it to a lot of the songs on "Planet Waves."

Overall my instinct is to say that most of the best Dylan tunes twixt "Blonde" and "Blood" hail from either the Basement Tapes sessions or from "John Wesley Harding," but I have immense fondness for his "family man" era, '69-'71-ish. That effortless sense of peace in his voice is irresistible to me.

Aside from 4th Street and Thin Man, what other Bob songs (if any) are in the second person?

Sadly, Queens of the Stone Age will probably never top, much less match, the heights that ...Like Clockwork achieved.

Ray LaMontagne is one of the most underrated artists in the last 20 years.

Almost Famous is just a serious remake of This is Spinal Tap.
