It's way more complicated than that. Basically, she was the first one who defected, brought a ton of people with her, and worked to go public. She's pretty much the spark that lit the fire that burned NXIUM down.

She was with the cult for a long time and did recruiting. But she bailed way before any of the sex traffic / branding stuff was really happening. Again, it's very complicated. And she beats herself up for staying as long as she did. But she was 100% a victim and abused during the whole thing. And without her, we might not know what we know about it.
