I'm sorry but this post is U2 meets REM meets Shania Twain and would have been better 10 years ago. How boring and tired. I'm disappointed, team.

I can't wait until this is safe to share so I can put up my 15 second side-by-side of Swallowed Whole and Thin Air.

You don't need to, I'm guessing everyone knows what you're referring to, they just don't care. Pearl Jam rips off Pearl Jam for the 703rd time.

Even after you mentioned it, Thin Air has yet to come to mind while listening to this.

The sung rhythm of 'down down down down' sounds like 'on on on on on'. It's a total non-issue.

"Sounds like Pearl Jam" (c)
So far we've heard:
- some Aerosmith
- some Dead Kennedys
- some U2
- some REM
- some Shania Twain
but no Pearl Jam.
Sounds more like "anything but Pearl Jam" so far

Is that what he's babbling about!?

Yeah I think that's pretty much the basis of his disdain for Lightning Bolt.

It sounds like all of these, but PJ sounds like all of these, so it sounds like PJ trying to sound like all of these but sounding like PJ, who sounds like all of these. What a mess!

I never really understood what Pearl Jam was supposed to sound like.

Neither did they. It was always thus.

Alone
Education
In My Tree
Red Mosquito
DTE
GTF
1/2 Full
JG
something like that...
I cannot associate these songs with anyone else. No one.

Really? If you wanted to, you could say "In My Tree" was a U2 anthem with cooler drumming and no production polish, "Red Mosquito" is a typical blues stomper, "DTE" is a bellowed grunge song attempted after grunge is over, "GTF" is another U2 anthem with more interesting dynamics and better drumming and louder guitars, "1/2 Full" is another blues stomper akin to Red Mosquito and Rival. Etc. Etc. Of course, we're not that dismissive because we love the songs.

There's hope then that we'll love these too? One day?

So Pearl Jam has made an EP. They have some work to do then.

Of course there is, that's what I'm saying. PJ aren't suddenly rehashing old tunes, they always did it.
