Went to pj.com to check out the new merch, but got the digital download presale instead.
By the way, DOTC & SW come as an instant download in WAV, FLAC or MP3... They sound :nice:

I'm absurdly late on the reviews and news, but thus far it seems like it's hard to argue with what I'm hearing. I guess the only quibble is how much of an outlier Dance seems to be in terms of its willingness to go a bit off the beaten path. I didn't think everything, or even most of the record would be along those lines, but I was hoping it pointed towards an openness towards going for it. To be honest, it still might; some of the song descriptions certainly pique my interest.

It might be the outlier, but it sounds like a lot of production on the album and in the great way that we hear on DotC. Ready for this!

Anyone else waiting to see if they release this as a box of 6 45s?

it's basically a standard pearl jam album but with some exploratory flourishes throughout, aka their best since S/T.

situate your mind in that sentence and you won't be disappointed.

So are we expecting this album to be legit good, or just 'Best since.....' good?

They've got to be a little weird, quirky, and ethereal. Let the songs breathe. That's what every album from Vs. to Riot Act had. Then they brickwalled the shit out of everything on the S/T record and spent two records letting BOB make them sound streamlined and poppy, or whatever.

I'm really hoping this record is going to have some personality. Colour me cautiously optimistic.

Me too, but I think it will be better than Avocado.
The general public will remember Pearl Jam for the singles on Ten plus daughter, elderly woman, and better man. The fan base that has stuck with them for 30 years will have a different view. I think that most of that group would agree that Yield is the best overall representation of what Pearl Jam was in the 90s. I have no doubt that Binaural will be remembered as their best album of this century, but I think Gigaton will be the album that best captures who Pearl Jam is and has been in the 21st century. It will have the experimentation of Binaural, the political commentary of Riot Act, the meat and potatoes cookie cutter rock of Avocado, the pop sensibilities of Backspacer, and the safe laziness of LB all in one. This will be the album that should have been called Pearl Jam.

So do we think we’re getting one more single before the album? There was four weeks between DOTC and SBWM, and next week will be four weeks.

Or, you know, it could leak.
