Incidentally, I like the album artwork (if that's album artwork!) and, along with the somewhat silly title, it suggests to me that they did try to go for archetypally classic / cock rock stylings. That means lightning and thunder and fire, bitches. Given that, I don't hate 'Lightning Bolt' and if it sounds slightly silly and fun, it was probably meant to.

Or it might just be that since I quite like the song I don't really care so much right now about the title.

Yeah. It could be any of the above. But I really like the artwork; it reminds me of some of the independently-made, screen-printed film posters I've seen. I like the block colours and symbols they have going on. And it looks less cartoony than Backspacer's artwork.

This band are weird. They spent their youth trying to sound like old men, now they're old and they want to sound like young men.

The two 'choruses' or whatever those multi tracked ev harmonies are, are really pulling it out of the fire for me.

It's pretty good. Not a top tier tune but a good one.

It would be in effect like a non-abrasive grindcore album, with every song lasting around 30 seconds.

For me, I don't think anything can compare to the 1st listen of Brain of J after popping in the brand new Yield disc. Even as I had heard that song previously, the raw attack just hit me right over the head. I still rock out to that cut 15 years later. Yes, this is similar in feel, but MYM doesn't really hit you as hard as Brain of J does.

That said, this is definitely my favorite lead single off of any record since Yield. While it certainly gets to a familiar place, it doesn't stay there, and there's plenty of freshness in how it gets there. It's layered and complex, but somehow still in your face. The melodies are strong, which is unusual for such a quick, short, punk style tune. Overall, just a nice blend of everyone's talents, nothing in particluar stands out, just a few decent riffs, with some transitions and vocals that fit. It certainly is a song that should sound great live.

My only complaint is with the backing vocals, not sure they really add anything, just makes it sound too polished

Didn't you just label MYM as 'too creative'? Needless to say I disagree. A lot of people dislike the Fixer by default. I don't, and I don't dislike the bridge either.

Too fucking creative? Come on. Out of all the good things you could say about this song, this is the silliest. It sounds like a hundred punk songs from the 1980s. And I like the thing.

THAT'S RIGHT SHITHEAD! It's more creative than their typical pop-punk numbers. I didn't say it was Bohemian Fucking Rhapsody.

It's not really. You might not have liked those as much, but they're no less 'creative'. This is a cookie cutter punk song, same as them. It's OK.
