I still think they'll wait for some sign that Dark Matter is slowing down at radio before releasing the 2nd single. That hasn't happened yet. It's still growing in weekly plays every day. It makes sense for them to let it hit its natural peak because as soon they release the 2nd single it will kneecap Dark Matter (currently the #1 modern rock song in the US). They're not going to just piss that away.

My guess would be they will have some kind of tie-in to the NCAA Tournament. That might actually be why they went with Dark Matter because they have had that on all kinds of hockey promos.

"Upper Hand" is nearly 6 minutes, that's super interesting

There are three tracks here that go past 5 minutes which worries me, even if I was excited for those initially. In the past it’s been quantity over quality.

which longer songs make you nervous?

which is to say, what prior longer pearl jam songs make you nervous about these lengths.
I tend to agree that outside of ten, which just layred on all these incredible outros, about 4-4:30 is the ideal length of a PJ song

The only Pearl Jam song that is too long is Comes Then Goes that I can think of off the top of my head. That’s because, while a beautiful sketch of a composition and a wonderful intention, it gets bogged down in too many words and the music doesn’t gain space from the length.

I think Seven O Clock is too long. I'd have cut the entire "much to be done part" and Ed going all "hee hee" at the end
Eh, this song just always rubbed me the wrong way in general, so wordy.

i like the peak, and think the song needs to end on something uplifting, but it could end that sequence sooner or push harder (like they do on Retrograde, a weaker song with a stronger ending)

"Hangman in dreamland about to call your name" is the peak of Seven O'Clock. And it's a six-star peak. I don't know how you can resolve a song/moment like that in a way that doesn't feel somehow lacking. But to me that's just a technicality.

I want a "much to be done" tattoo eventually, love that part
