If the music were good they’d make it harder to feel this way, but as it stands they’re trying to sell me on a transactionally nostalgic relationship to fund their lifestyle. Not into it.

Of all the things I hate about this song, the punk musical aesthetic isn’t one of them.

I do think, however, that Ed’s proletariat lyrics generally feel like cosplay to me now. Not sure if that actually applies here because I haven’t spent any time with the lyrics, but generally speaking I’d say PJ doing punk music, fine but tired; Eddie doing punk lyrics, lol. He should keep singing about his friends’ kitchens.

Honest question: Does Ed/Pj's 30 year or so of really big philanthropic work not give them some passes, respect, goodwill? Are you really that upset about a potential lawsuit with the EB thing and ticket prices? Are you that militant in your beliefs that if someone misfires on occasion thats it for them? Done?

I'm working off of memory here, but if I recall the explanation about the expense ticket prices thing on the SOLAT podcast:

1. Yes pearl jam's tickets are more expensive than they used to be, and increased faster than inflation, but they are below what they could be charging and many comparable artists

2. Ticket master does dynamic pricing for a certain percentage of tickets (they keep raising the price to whatever level a fan will pay. So that's where 900 tickets come from, and if no one buys them they go back down)

3. Pearl Jam's number was 10% dynamic pricing, which is on the low end of available seats

4. Ticket master maintains a fan to fan resale (not every artist has this) to support direct resales of tickets with no additional markups

It doesn't make tickets cheaper, but I do recall these explanations taking some of the sting out of that story. This was from a guest knowledgeable about this stuff, but it's the only source I heard

The outro baffles me until the very last seconds. I think its just a bit much and somewhat frustrating you can't hear a goddamn thing Ed is saying.

However, when ed gives that final frustrating AHHHH! and the double hit ending.....

This sentiment is spot on. This song is a frantic call to change things, figure things out, before we run out of time, whether by means of the world going to hell or quite simply aging and dying before we’ve done what we need to do. That sentiment has always been there with Pearl Jam. The urgency has changed because they are much older now.

what if you learned that the band didnt make money touring till about 2003/2006. WOuld that change your view about them trying to get some of dat?
