Maybe people just don't like these songs. Maybe there's not this weird bias that's coloring their approach to new material. Sometimes the easiest explanation is the right one.
Right, so it would be really nice if people were saying that, rather than saying "Obviously if poster X,Y and Z aren't liking the songs, I won't fucking them either. Look at the schmucks who like the songs, I mean PJ have lost it, why can't these idiots see that?" Is this the easiest explanation, that PJ has just finished and everyone else who likes their stuff is just a twat?
It's a good thing that no one said that then.
I might about a month from now.
Yeah I guess if you're going to be shat on for saying it you might just as well actually say it.
But I can't until the album comes out. And I'm a fair man, if it has merits I will be the first to point them out.

Said what? No one said that PJ were over, RIP Pearl Jam, I'm going to decide which posters' opinions are trustworthy enough to assimilate into mine?
no one called anyone idiots or schmucks for liking these songs
and it is pretty normal to have high/low expectations based on whether the songs are well-received by people whose taste aligns or doesn't align with yours

I was actually thinking about this very subject of songs that sound like each other, I get that vibe from Grievance and Insignificance and even like Marker In The Sand and Big Wave
Not so much LB and UK as for some reason I am not really hearing the similarities beyond a palm muted guitar thing and Ed's vocals being up front but obviously a lot of people hear it so it may just be me lol
Getaway sounds like Fixers older wiser brother.
Stip?
It's more about phrasing and rhythm and a developed melody. I can hear it.
that's not a connection that jumped out at me but the next time I listen to getaway (or fixer) I'll listen for it.
Hmmm. I'll listen for it. Johnny Guitar was what first jumped out at me in terms of the phrasing.

I don't want to go down a long road on this, so all I'll say is that while talking PJ's music is interesting, talking about the biases that stop people from liking new PJ stuff, whether it's not like pop music or not liking the band at all or thinking they're experimental when they never were, or any of that, sounds boring. It's come up a lot here in the past few years and it's way more annoying that someone feeling negative about new material, to me at least. And this is coming from someone who finds a lot to like in the new stuff.
I'm sure it's boring. If you post as much as me (or the trolls) a lot of the posts are going to be dead weight, I guess.

You're something, aren't you. No one's been shat on for saying they hated the new songs. Nobody.
Say you hate them before you heard them and get ready to be ridiculed - and rightly so.

Maybe so, but some posters have spent a lot of time feeling the need to remind us constantly. Eventually it just sounds like name-dropping. I've been quite careful to not say I love these songs just because Stip does, but man, that's what I feel from the bottom of my loins. Just some restraint is being called for here, that's all.

From the same curmudgeons who moan about the new stuff. I did not go ape shit over those two songs and I've only listened to them about three times, in spite of the fact I like them. I don't like them as much as I like these. CC is actually incredibly boring until halfway through. You loved them because they represented old PJ, and all the same people who loved them for that reason, hate this stuff. It's nothing short of predictable.
"Old Pj"
those tracks were from 2 albums ago and from a period where most people hate....and consider standard modern Pearl Jam.
Those songs take chances....
Let It Ride seemed like a pretty standard pearl jam song. All pretty familiar and readily identifiable parts.

The songs are fun and catchy and enjoyable but I, in no way, would offer this pearl jam up to someone to show why I have spent my entire life being a loser about a band...

That makes total sense. But do you see why comments like
"I can't imagine why anyone would like these songs" when you haven't heard them yet is construed by others as trolling?

Semantics is everything. To claim that someone has said something, you need to be using direct quotes or it's moot.

It's not fair on any song to judge it on that basis. Just because people you usually disagree with like something, means you won't like it? Without having heard it? C'mon
There was a part of me that hoped I would really hate some of these songs in a way that the rest of RM would be really into just to bring us all together. I could die for our sins!
