This can be said of all the Alien movies though - it's a given when you go into these that stupid people will make stupid decisions to get the ball rolling

Covenant is definitely dumb but it absolutely is not generic

Same - same. This is a darker film than Prometheus though

Well, it's definitely not as offensive as Prometheus.

Also, I'm all for stupid characters making stupid decisions to get the ball rolling, but it's possible to do that in a fun way without offending me. Alien: Covenant just didn't ever need making in the first place. It left me with a feeling of, "what was the point?"

It just served to make the entire Alien universe dumber and more boring. I'm trying to erase any memories in my mind of Alien 3, Resurrection, Prometheus and Covenant. There were only ever two films in this series.

The first Alien kind of started with someone making a really dumb decision

People care way too much about characters and plot. Covenant is a gloriously ludicrous, passionately idiosyncratic, wildly nasty, boldly insane, and vividly stylish experience. Who fucking cares if some of the meatbags in it do dumb things?

This has merit. I just don't particularly agree that the film is boldly insane and vividly stylish. Each to their own of course, but I didn't think there was anything that stylish at any point. The effects were poor, too.

I agree with quite a bit of this.

Have you seen Funeral Parade of Flowers, LV? I saw it a few days ago and thought it was pretty great.

Planning to see Moonlight this evening. Heard good things about it. Did win best picture, and Mahershala Ali is very talented.
