- Tilda Swinton is always great. The little girl is also great. Not sure how I feel about Gyllenhaal's performance. Those kinds of over the top performances tend to cut me the wrong way.
I like that the message was out in the open, instead of trying to smash you over the head with subtleties, which seems typical with this subject matter. But the whole corporate greed meets sci-fi alternate future storyline isn't exactly the most original thing. The scenes with Okja and the girl are genuinely touching in the best of Studio Ghibli kind of way.
The pacing isn't great, however.
I think I need to watch it again.

I watched Split last night, in part due to the some of the recommendations here. While I thought McAvoy did a good job the movie itself was pretty standard stuff for its genre. That said I do look forward to the story's continuation.

My wife and I were rewatching The Others last night. As we started it, we both commented and how it would probably look really good in black and white. So I decided to turn my TV's color down to 0. Holy shit, it looks so much fucking better that way. It's insane. I don't think I can go back to watching it in color. It seriously looks like it was made to be watched that way.

Re: What movies are you watching?
black mass wasn't bad, i suppose...i think the screenplay could have been better, and despite a great cast there were only a few strong performances
i also thought some of the subplots seemed rather pointless or underdeveloped

Alien covenant. Ridley Scott directed this? Really? On par with Alien Resurrection IMO.

Harry Lime thought the script was so good that he was preparing himself for the best film ever made. I'm not kidding. I think he quit posting though before he reviewed the actual movie.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I watched "The Circle" last night since i had recently finished the book.
Oh. My. Lord. That was bad. No wonder it was reviewed so shitty and in theaters for so little time. I've never seen a wonderful story so hacked to pieces for the big screen before. Characters merged into one, important plot and character development plot points were completely missing. Total hack job and flimsy.
I wasn't expecting this to be some sort of masterpiece but i was hoping for something entertaining. Makes me wonder if the writers and filmmakers involved actually read the book. If so, very curious as to what they deemed was important in the telling of the story.
oof.

Dave Eggers co-wrote the screenplay with the director

Spider-Man: Homecoming was exhausting. Marvel movies are so formulaic that they feel inhuman. It's like a movie made by aliens or an AI or something.
