In the spirit of March Madness, I would pick Ole in a tournament battle. But honestly don’t mind either of them. Both I think are adequate b-sides.

So for all of you who really hate Ole, is the issue the lyrics and/or Ed's squeaks?

Musically and production-wise I think it's really good. If it was on Lost Dogs, I think it'd be one of my favourites. To my ears, it's catchy and has a bit of the same energy as Whipping.

Ole would definitely be better loved if it were the bside to a single, because that is a fairer venue for it

Ole would be one of the stronger tracks on Backspacer IMO.

I would also say that Ed looked better (skinny) when recording I Got Shit back in the day. Recording and performing Ole and Can't Deny Me....he's a little heavier. Skin sagging a bit too on the face.

This thread is taking me back to that period just before Gigaton when i briefly wondered if i'd ever get into new Pearl Jam music.

That Lightning Bolt > Ole > Can't Deny Me run was bleak AF.

Can't Deny Me is nowhere near as bad as it's painted here, especially in the PJ era we were in; the "you may be rich" line is cringe but it's not as tone-deaf as "The Haves"

Olé has light and silly lyrics but it's accompanied by a genuinely nice punky instrumental that's nicely produced; it's a masterpiece compared to Supersonic etc.

I was more than OK with PJ making those songs on their downtime; I'm glad they didn't make it onto Gigaton but they did hint at a move in the right direction

Ed was kinda heavy when singing Ole though on Fallon so you really have to consider that, too.
