B, two posts up from yours she “wholeheartedly” endorsed puberty blockers without parental consent

Yes. This post is a good example of how many feel.BurtReynolds wrote:That's nice. Let me know when it gives you psychic powers.Ms Harmless wrote:I know a lot about anti-trans stigma and the fears of transphobes about changed bodies; I know because I live it
It probably helps that you interpret any and all criticism, questioning and disagreement as inherently a threat to your very existence and definitionally anti-trans. Such hubris! Under that lens, it must seem as common as breathing. Literally everything that exists contrary to your control is transphobic. You've completely walled yourself off from any alternatives.
I think one of the closest things to a universal human trait is care for children's health, barring a few sickos. To believe otherwise is to have a cartoonish and deeply warped view of the world and people.

Re: Transgender Rights
I find myself agreeing with most of that John Oliver piece.
He glossed over the Olympics evaluating eligibility on a sport by sport basis. I take that to mean the Olympics acknowledges that it simply wouldn’t be fair for certain sports. That hurdle is one I personally don’t think I’ll ever get over.
Some of the medical stuff like puberty blockers, I don’t know enough to comment on.

I think parental consent needs to be questioned in a lot of cases -- for example, if a child confidentially comes out at school to a counsellor, they should not be "outed" to their parents, it's potentially very dangerousB wrote:Fair enough. I feel like, if young people in schools can get free condoms, menstrual products and birth control, we can ideally, eventually, move society forward so that puberty blockers are included
it hasn't been long since married trans people had to get spousal consent to transition, which is a similar control tactic
but fwiw, in the grand scheme of things that's a small point of disagreement; if B isn't quite there it's OK, the main thing is to underline that trans kids need these and they need (controlled, but not gatekept) access to them

Of your 3 examples, only 1 is a medication, and it's possibly the most used prescription med in the world.Ms Harmless wrote:I think parental consent needs to be questioned in a lot of cases -- for example, if a child confidentially comes out at school to a counsellor, they should not be "outed" to their parents, it's potentially very dangerousB wrote:Fair enough. There are mechanisms for all sorts of things that allow kids to seek treatment without parental consent. Nothing in this debate has convinced me that the default should be to provide them without parental permission.

Oh, and definitely no one should ever out kids to their parents.

Re: Transgender Rights
1. sure, the 3 I listed are not all strictly medications, but they are all gender-based and sexual healthcare; that's why I grouped them together, and why I group them when I speak on this as an LGBTQ+ personB wrote:Of your 3 examples, only 1 is a medication, and it's possibly the most used prescription med in the world.Ms Harmless wrote:I think parental consent needs to be questioned in a lot of cases -- for example, if a child confidentially comes out at school to a counsellor, they should not be "outed" to their parents, it's potentially very dangerousB wrote:Fair enough. 2. OK, truce; I'm not committed to this as "default", but I do want that mechanism; kids should not have to involve parents where it is decided that it would harm the child (and we've a long way to go with this, since we are still trying to persuade people that outing kids *is* dangerous)

yeah that's obviously a bad take; any name can be gender-neutral, any name can belong to anyone of any gender

This is important as that threat is real. BUT. How would that work for our theoretical puberty blocker candidate 6th-grader?
