I guess it might make a bit of sense if they're trying to move one of their current defensemen to clear up some cap space and just want Gill as a backup plan, but... it's not like their D is great to begin with.

Dan Cleary has signed with Detroit. No word on if he plans on playing for both Philadelphia and Detroit.

this was actually wonderful news as a flyers fan. he's not going to bring anything to the team except to take a spot from one of rosehill/rinaldo. im sure you guys can guess i want both of them dressed for every game. he pretty much just used the flyers try out as leverage against detroit.

So um... John Scott drops the gloves and goes after Kessel, Kessel starts with the tomahawk chops to the legs while everyone on the Leafs goes after Scott, Clarkson jumps off the bench to help out, Kessel beats the crap out of Brian Flynn, Bernier and Miller have a nice little fight.

I'm gonna be honest... I did not see this coming in a preseason game. The way the Leafs reacted makes me think this Leafs team is going to be a whole lot of fun to watch. I know he's a really good fighter, but John Scott is going to have to fight Orr/McLaren every single shift he plays against the Leafs this year.

Kessel should get 5 regular season minimum. He used his stick as a weapon not one but three times

Regardless of what he did to Flynn, Kessel was a punk last night and he'll have a target on his head for a while.
The game the night before had sone decent fights too. It's going to be a fun series this year.

I'm as hard on Phil Kessel as anyone, but shit, I don't blame him for the first whack he took at Scott...bush league stuff from Buffalo...and watching Miller get his ass kicked was quite enjoyable too

The problem with Buffalo is is their whole team was a bunch of vaginas, so they went and got the biggest goon of the last 20 years...problem is is he's all they have and the rest of their team is still a bunch of vaginas

He probably would have gotten away with the first couple of slashes while Scott was still coming after him, but I think he'll get a couple games for continuing to go after him once his teammates had jumped in. I wish it wasn't Clarkson who came off the bench because he's actually an important player to the Leafs, but this is the kind of stuff I love to see from a team. Everyone on the ice for the Leafs was going nuts. I love that Bernier wanted to get involved, too.

Agreed. No need to get into another discussion about team chemistry in baseball, but it can have a huge impact in hockey (coming together as a team, playing a solid defensive system, reading each other's position on the ice, knowing your teammates will help you out in a scrum, being comfortable taking lumberjack swings at a giant goon's ankles because your buddies are coming in to back you up, etc.) I've never seen a preseason game that made me feel so excited for the upcoming season.

My respect for the Leafs jumped greatly this morning after I watched the video on Deadspin...and my utter disgust of the Sabres organization grew just as much...I'll say it again, what a bunch of vaginas
