And the whole thing of PJ having disdain for the money-grabbing media is kind of normal, isn't it? The guitar cases thing was a joke, surely.

....even the tour laminates they gave most everyone at Epic said "Suspect" instead of "VIP" or "Crew."
So...actually....that's pretty cool.....

Sorry, yeah, tour laminates is what I meant. That is cool.

I'm sure they were impossible to deal with but ironically reading that post made me sympathise with them more then with the people from Epic. The whole thing read as her complaining how they didn't want to be turned into something they didn't want to be. I can't picture how anyone would think proposing Eddie to pose 1/2 naked with a snake is anything but searching for trouble let alone someone who's supposed to be close friends with him.

Yeah a lot of that made me think why even ask them, and why take it personally when they say no to something you know full well they're not going to want to do? Seems like bringing trouble on yourself.
No ones read five against one then? I guess ill have to spend my hard earned £3 and find out if its any good myself
And the tour laminates sound funny. It's not like they said "corporate whorebag" or something.

If you're going to be one, you've got to learn to take jokes like that on the chin.

I've read it. It's pretty forgettable in the grand pantheon of rock books. I'm hard pressed to remember much from it. I think everything in it is stuff you're gonna know already.

Bummer, I think that's gonna be the case with anything written about the early years I guess.

amusing blog entry by some woman who was mentally scarred from working with such miserable band and I'm assuming a little butthurt that Eddie gave no shits when she stopped.)
Wow. The nerve of Ed to not pose naked with a snake for Spin. WHAT AN ASSHOLE.
I like where she's mad that they didn't dedicate a song to her. Shouldn't she know you need to petition that shit in advance?
She sounds like a very strange person.
Really?
She sounds OK to me, I really enjoyed reading that (and her comments underneath where she elaborates more about Dave).

Her post about being a Pixie wife seemed pretty level headed too.

I just thought it was funny that she felt compelled to tell people how she is so over pearl jam, and guess what they're assholes too, especially when nothing she mentions sounds that bad. And apparently she likes talking about it cause she said she gave an interview to rolling stone about it too.
Idk maybe i'm just taking the piss cause she was mean about pearl jam

I'm sure that anyone working within the industry in the early to mid 90's would have found PJ hard to deal with as they didn't play the game, especially after the narcissistic 80's. And everyone who was working for them (ie in the direction of selling records and maintaining jobs for them all) to see a goal achieved and met with disdain would have been pretty infuriating.
I read Five Against One and the Dave A quotes are really enlightening. Not about any behind the scenes workings or revelations but just how hurt and humble he was about it all. He didn't diss anyone or take any shots. He seemed pretty sensible about it all even when discussing how he tried to get in touch with Ed and Jeff. It was probably from this book (whether there's basis or not) that I formed the opinion that Ed was influenced a fair bit by Beth's beliefs/judgements (see HH's I sometimes realise......as you'll let me). There were early rumblings regarding Dave A and women. Then there's the whole Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and the injuries Dave A had. Kelly and the band seemed pretty inconsiderate about it all.
FAOne is an okay but ultimately unsatisfactory read. I might flip through it again soon though. Perhaps after I finally read PJ20.

I just bit the bullet and ordered a tattered version. A few melodramatic reviews had me worried i'd read it and suddenly hate the band. But we're in 2013, post-target, backspacer, zomg ed married a model etc. so idk what it could have in there now:lol: I figure its this or the shiny happy people holding hands version any band authorized version of accounts would be. It would have been neat if they collaborated with it. They were pretty pissed about it i think? I think it might be why they'd still hold a grudge with him now, just cause he did it.
Still haven't got around to PJ20 yet. One day.

FAOne also talks about Ed's upbringing quite a bit. I'm sure he was pissed about that. A few things contradict him too.

Yeah apparently the writer interview his stepfather? Which would put it on eds shitlist from day one i assume. I'll just take everything with the same shovel of salt i take with everything the band/ed usually says.

It was certainly an interesting read. The information about his upbringing and the band's early days, are the better parts of the book. The Ticketmaster bullshit does go on a bit, though.
Anthony Kiedis's 'Scar Tissue' is actually a good read, despite his level of douchiness. His constant struggle with drugs was probably the highlight of the book. Having said, that I found 'The Dirt' by Motley Crue was one of the best reads about a band battling drugs and fame, they really go up to some fucked up shit. But they thought they were pretty bad until they met Ozzy Osborne:
Before a Mötley Crüe opening gig for Ozzy, the Black Sabbath leader told Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx to pee on the pavement and lap it up like a dog. He obeyed, but just as he bent over to lick the ground, Ozzy swooped down and lapped it up instead -- right before he pulled out a straw and snorted a nearby line of ants off the ground.

Good times.

That was funny to me and i don't know why. I haven't actually read alot of biographys, i was thinking of reading scar tissue but i remember thinking it sounded to depressing or something. I'll get round to it. I'm awful at finishing books, got piles of half read/barely started books lying around, and yet i still buy more.

Remember that story Dave Abbruzzese told about chatting to Alain Johannes at a Chris Cornell solo show in the late 90s only for Vedder to roll up to say hey to Alain, not having spotted Dave, and things getting comically awkward?
"Hey! Oh...well, if it isn't ol' Daaaave Abbruzzese! Uh. Well. Uh. See ya!"
