That's part of it; every drum can be tuned up or down to sound more tight or more flabby. Matt tends to prefer his snare on the fatter side, for my taste. Just occasionally he's got it right. He's also got nice sounding toms on this album (either very high or very low/deep), and a good use of cymbals. I usually think his use of cymbals sucks; he uses all the wrong cymbals at all the wrong times, and MYM showcases a bit of that. But the other tracks don't have that issue, so I have to think he deliberately played MYM in a simplistic punky way. Or the other songs just inspired him to do more. In songs like Getaway or Swallowed Whole, there's loads of space for a drummer to play around, and he does.dimejinky99 wrote:harmless wrote:Fuck tone? Is tone in drums where the snare sounds too right and sharp vs it being looser/relaxed?

So, my love affair with LTRP turned out to just be a one-night stand. And that's okay, we had fun and I'm sure I'll call on her again when I'm drunk. Getaway and SW keep getting a bit better and LB is LB.

I'm struggling to see Getaway and MYM together. But that's because the production values are so different. MYM sounds thinner and less substantial than all four songs on the leak.

I'm struggling to get an objective opinion about the production from the leak and MYM doesn't fit in but i presume they'll sound closer to MYM on the CD.harmless wrote:I'm struggling to see Getaway and MYM together. particularly the vocals sound badly processed and the music sounds thin more often than not. I guess a lot of mid/mid-low frequencies are missing because of the encoding.

I put them on a mix back-to-back and to me it makes MYM seem way overproduced. Of course, I don't like the song. They do flow together well.harmless wrote:I'm struggling to see Getaway and MYM together. But that's because the production values are so different. Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
It just all sounds tinnier. The other songs sound more "full". The scenario I'm worried about is finding that they were recorded in different sessions in different ways, so they just sound meh together. This is obviously very nitpicky because I like both songs.Dugg wrote:I put them on a mix back-to-back and to me it makes MYM seem way overproduced. Of course, I don't like the song. I just had a stupid thought that the key to the album is My Father's Son...Jaeti wrote:I've been thinking this, too.harmless wrote:I'm struggling to see Getaway and MYM together. Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I don't care if PJ is "just a rock band" or not experimental enough for some of you. I never went to PJ to play a style of music unfamiliar to me. I went to PJ because they played music I grew up with and loved. Every album was more than satisfying to me. Most of their albums have been amongst my favorites of all time. Backspacer was their first release that I didn't love. And I did get a bit down on the band for that. But after 20 years and 9 albums and about 200 songs, how upset should I really be? Not very in my estimation.
Now we finally get new music. And after four years, people's expectations are through the roof. They have their personal vision for what PJ has to be and inevitably those expectations can never be met. I have expectations too. I expect this album to be Pearl Jam. Whatever they are now. And I expect to really love most of it. After all they are 8/9 so far in delivering albums that I really love. So the odds are pretty good.
Lastly, I could not possibly care less what anyone else thinks of PJ or this new album. If I love it, I'll love it. If I like it, then fine. If I hate it, my loss. But my opinions will be mine. No message board post from someone I don't know on the other side of the world is going to dictate my feelings for the music I hear.
So far, I think Lightning Bolt has a chance to be a wonderful album. I have already really loved three of the six new songs we've heard. I also enjoy two of the remaining three to varying degrees. This leaves me very optimistic for the songs we have yet to hear. And what is better then sitting on the verge of a new album release that we've waited years for, all the while listening to new songs that make you excited and full of anticipation? For me, not much is better.

I can recommend the Solgar 25 μg (1000 IU). Very good, although not vegetarian.harmless wrote:I had a blood test taken and it came back with depleted vitamin D.
