How does that work?
He said ‘shutdown is only affecting democrats anyways’

It isn’t. It’s affecting far more than them. Does he really not get that or is it rallying the troops as usual?

I would really love it if in response to the Trump presidency, the president's power to do stuff like this would be severely curtailed, assuming he actually can. Probably won't happen though.

Explains the sudden interest in executive authority as a means to the wall. The White House just realized that “I’ll just keep it closed” is far deadlier to them than it is to Democrats.

Let it stay closed. That just means I won't have to pay in.

Republicans are sweating, but they’ve never told the dumbass no so now he doesn’t think to care what they will support.
Trump has said he is willing to keep agencies shut down as long as necessary to force Democrats to appropriate several billion dollars for the construction of walls along the Mexico border. But some Republicans have said they are uncomfortable with this approach, and several this week sided with Democrats in their effort to reopen agencies immediately.

The scale of the consequences also reflects a deep disconnect between Trump, who has largely cheered on a prolonged shutdown, and the officials running federal agencies, who are trying to minimize the fallout.

“If we have to stay out for a very long period of time, we’re going to do that,” Trump said Friday.

White House officials have not fully briefed lawmakers on the expanding consequences of the government shutdown, leading to confusion about what happens as each week goes by.

So, basically, it sounds like the White House pushed the shutdown, thinking it worked in their favor. Plus it didn’t require Mitch, who wasn’t willing to go to the ropes for them on this.

Then they found out just how bad the impacts of a long term shutdown are, panicked, and are now desperately combing for an executive authority that will let them say “it’s fine if we sign this Democrat bill, because we’re getting our wall our own way.

I assume that, if that doesn’t work, the line will be “Democrats want to drag this stupid fight out until it completely destroys America, but we will take the high road for the sake of the great American worker and sign the budget bill.”
