I don't think it's cookie cutter at all. It's a much better written song than their last few attempts at this.

Also, nowhere in their catalog are there leads like the ones Mike plays, or with Eddie singing with this much resonance in his voice.

I said it was too creative....FOR. THE. TYPICAL. FAN.

I think it will be over their heads. Again, I didn't say it was a masterpiece. I just think it's too good and people won't get it. I'm very cynical like that. There are already comments about how it's not nearly as commercial as their last few attempts at singles.

I guess time will tell.
i'm ready for a full song vocal review. seriously.

This is gonna be all over the radio here. They played it 3 times in a row earlier.
The important thing is to not have the album out to capitalize on that. If you can wait to drop it until the luster's gone...you're doin alright
yeah thats unfortunate.
Yeah I thought the one month between Fixer and Backspacer was perfect. Anyone have any guesses as to why there's three months wait this time?

At 'this'? Which attempts, and what's 'this'? Be more specific. I don't think you can say this song isn't a purely predictable punk song (albeit a good one) any more or less than the others. You might like it more, but for a start, Matt's drumming is more bland and uninteresting than almost every other PJ punk song in existence.
Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Also, nowhere in their catalog are there leads like the ones Mike plays, or with Eddie singing with this much resonance in his voice.
I agree it's strong vocally and Ed is doing something with his delivery which isn't the screeching he can't manage at his age. And although I don't think this is the best Mike solo ever, I think it works and is very OTT and Motorhead-esque.
Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:I said it was too creative....FOR. THE. TYPICAL. FAN.
Most things are, tbf. But I don't know what 'the typical fan's reaction has been so I can't tell.

But neither was anything prior to Backspacer. I don't think this song is any more or less commercial than anything else they've done other than Backspacer. What I think it is is more authentically punk, and that won't float everyone's boat.
Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:I guess time will tell.
Yup.

My money is on 'the album isn't really finished' as the reason for the 3 month gap.

The model they operate under is so outdated.

Well then Wikipedia's wrong. I never thought I'd see the day. They have The Fixer as released August 29, 2009

Anyone else hear the stuttering guitar intro in this as similar to the verse parts in "why go"?

I wonder if this song will be like "Johnny Guitar" in the sense that everyone raves about it at first, and then a few months later a ton of haters come out of the woodwork calling it herky-jerky crap with no groove after they find out Matt wrote it.
