I'd maybe bump Life & Limb for Epic Problem

It’s an under appreciated record. The production is great, and the tossed off nature makes for one of the edgier albums he’s done

I am on board with this. I think it’s a big break in that the album is more fun than any attempt at being profound. It did take maybe 3 or 4 songs in before I really got it but one I did I liked it. I certainly ended up enjoying it more than Hawks and Doves, which I also liked but not nearly as much in the end as this.

The following three albums aren’t my cup of tea. I mean I like Everybody’s Rocking the most. But Trans is pretty rough. There’s a few gems in there but it’s a challenging listening. Old Ways is killing me. I am just not a traditional country music fan I guess.

I mean I see why Geffen sued him. But Everybody’s Rockin’ is harmless fun rockabilly. That was part of the enjoyment, plus it is short which helps. Trans was okay but a bit too much vocoder for me. Old Ways was just not my thing.

I like all three. It took me a while to come around to Neil's '80's period but I love it now. Check out the archival live album "A Treasure" for a warmer, grittier take on the "Old Ways" sound.

Yeah he well in love way too much with the synthesizer in the 80s. I am about halfway through Life, which I think has the skeleton of good songs ruined by too much interference from synthesizers and sound effects. I’ll be blessed with his 90s output soon enough.

Maybe I am wrong for it, but I really sort of liked This Note’s For You. I also know where to send my friends if they ever say anything remotely absurd like “I wonder how Neil Young would sound on the Blues Brothers...”

Will do. All in due time. I am starting to get back towards albums I have absolutely heard before, as in freedom is next. Live at the Bluenote will be on my list for sure.

Ragged Glory rocks. I spent far too many years holding off on many of his albums. Not because I did t like his music or was unaware but because I was listening to other stuff. That was a big part of the reason this journey was worth taking, even with some albums that have been less than stellar. It’s good to be back in the second wind of the meat of his catalogue.

Harvest Moon is excellent. A far better effort at a folk/country sound than Old Ways.

Made it through the 90s before the next quick break (hope to make it to the end by the time Colorado comes out). A great decade for Neil and I would have a hard time picking a favorite between Ragged Glory, Mirror Ball and Broken Arrow. Harvest Moon was also really good.

My first NY album was Ragged Glory. I bought it because i heard it was like the begging of grunge or something. I loved it. It took me a while to really get it.
