That would still be a shorter time period than the gap between Backspacer and Lightning Bolt. So that's probably a best-case scenario.

Im actually looking forward to this tour, the band is in vert good form these days. And then, studio next year.

I don't equate album/tour frequency with passion.

Most bands above the age of 40 who are touring non stop and on the album/tour cycle are doing it for one or two reasons: 1) they need to to survive career wise, or ) they are just greedy as hell.

If anyone else is touring or releasing frequent albums like that at an older age, then they are a solo act and they don't have to negotiate several different schedules and bandmember priorities.

I'd love to hear if there's any band (not solo act) that discounts this thought.

Spoon, Wilco, Sonic Youth, TV On The Radio, etc, off the top of my head. But that's missing the point; I don't really think anyone is doing this

Granted, the way in which they tour, with minimal rehearsals and not much time to warm up, can make it harder for the band to get in a groove, but they're out on the road every year. Nor do I think the length between albums is a big issue. But I just don't see how someone could read that Jeff quote and think it's entirely crazy to speculate that they don't seem to have much drive or interest in creating new material with this band, and some of us here think it's showing with some the weaker songwriting on their recent work. I think that's what's more at stake than whether or not they get a record out now. The length between albums is a symptom of that; it's not the problem in and of itself.

Sure, there are times when they may not be feeling it, but I don't believe that those times are when they are on the road or in the studio. Whether you like the recent albums or not, or like the recent tours or not, I strongly agree on the passion aspect. The poured alot of energy and passion into the last 3 albums. If you didn't like it, that's just a disalignment in taste and desired direction. When they're not feeling it, they stay away. That's fine by me.

Also, if anyone thinks Spoon, TVOTR, and even Wilco and Sonic Youth were rolling around in swimming pools and Ferraris when they were 40 that is absolutely laughable. The non-songwriters in those bands are probably comfortable at this point, but I highly doubt they feel like they don't need to work anymore. PJ probably doesn't have to work another day in their lives if they didn't want or, or their families, and maybe alot of their employees. When they go out and do something, they are feeling it. If they are just feeling it less often, I've got lots of music to go back on until they are feeling it again.

They were amazing.

I'd certainly be critical if they came out and I thought they weren't feeling it. I just don't think they've come even close to that. I totally see how the quotes kinda spell out that they can be kinda lazy these days. But they are not lazy on OUR time. When they are in front of us, either by recording or playing live, they are totally committed and passionate. Whether you like it is a different thing about creative direction and stuff. When they are unpassionate or lazy, they are In Hiding.

All of these bands invested in their own studios when they first got a little money, which has made the finances of their careers waaaaay easier to manage.

Stone has his own studio right? I wouldn't be surprised if all of PJ have their own mini-studios.

Having BOB do so much seems pretty lazy. Recording SBM again for LB seems pretty lazy. Getaway seems pretty lazy. Future Days is lazy. Ed's way of writing lyrics is lazy.
