I didn't think so; didn't push my personal scare buttons. I just had fun with it. I'm sure others will find it scary, though.

I've heard it described as The Goonies meets A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Accurate. But much better than Elm Street. About on par with Goonies for quality IMO. I'm so happy there's an R-rated movie starring kids that's doing well at the box office. And one with personality, no less!

I was already pretty excited for this. Now I'm over the moon!

I thought Tim Curry's Pennywise was much more frightening than this one. Curry's looked like he'd be an actual clown; nobody's hiring this one for any birthday parties.

As much as I love Tim Curry, I think Skarsgard's interpretation of the role absolutely obliterated his.

Curry looks quaint and bland by comparison. Skarsgard injects so much life, menace, and weirdness into the character. He is vivid, tangible, playful but never light, and he looms large. He is an unforgettable presence. Curry was inspired casting, and he played the part well, but the character was not as uniquely realized or imaginatively crafted as he is here. Really, it's a credit to both Skarsgard and the filmmakers.

I just think there's something more unsettling about a realistic-looking clown.

When Pennywise was dancing on his stage to scare Bev, his unflinching face was meant to terrify, but I would've been freaked out even more if he played it straight like he was a clown putting on an actual performance. I'm influenced by wanting that extra layer of believability to the performance though.

And the 80's have a reputation of being a little....ridiculous. Maybe.

It's like The Joker. Jack Nicholson was really good playing him. But then Heath Ledger came along and redefined the role. Now he's all anyone ever thinks of.
