Man, I really love the new version of "Only One". Makes me appreciate the song so much more. Really brings out the bittersweet joy of the sentiment.

I don't want to go back and read the thread. Did I miss the part where people want to talk about the actual music on this thing?

I've been going through his discography and thinking about inter-song and inter-album context, and it's really mind-boggling. Some individual songs contain multiple narratives (with multiple meanings) while creating one narrative, songs will talk to each other as they transition, then each album has its own larger narrative (which is both personal and social), and then there's one huge, ongoing narrative that plays out from album to album. There are so many layers - it's insane.

I've also come to realize more and more just how fucking heavy all of his post-Graduation music is. It's deeply sad and tragic.

I was reminded of that the other day listening to Late Registration and Graduation.

Yeah not to be too simplistic or gauche about it, but his mom dying really took the music to a new place where you can feel him fighting to stay afloat, searching for answers. It's fascinating.

Also, I could listen to the groove on 30 Hours for... 30 Hours. (sorry)

I love how Andre 3000's contribution is only two words, but it's great cuz it's him. How fun would it be to be in the studio with them that day, while he comes up with in real time. That was after MSG, right?
