Sorry Anders. Are they trying to leave the country?

Yes. Their house got flooded, and at its worst water was flowing into the second floor. They got rescued via a rowing boat (friend of their son). There is still water in their first floor.

This after experiencing a lot during the war, and the Russians not doing anything to help now (they are in the Russian controlled area, and have been given Russian passports).

They travelled via Crimea yesterday, changed car there to a Russian registered car, and have then gotten to Russia proper. From there their plan is to get to two other countries, and then back into western Ukraine, where they have friends close to the Romanian border. Still a risky trip ahead.

Wow. The only option it seems.

Wish them all the good luck I have to offer.

Yeah... wishing them the best getting out of there. Difficult to comprehend what even a quarter of that would do to my sanity and here they are powering on.

No further news from my relatives, as they are still driving in Russia.

I appreciate the update, Anders. This is your wife's immediate family, no?

No. It’s the parents of my brother’s wife/grandparents of my niece.

I live in the same city as my brother, our families spend a lot of time together, and every major holiday. I was also the best man at my brother’s wedding in Ukraine, and spent a lot of time with her parents. Lovely people.

My sister in law also has a brother, with a family of his own, who are also in Ukraine.

Got it. Awful situation.

I was thinking of what a mess I'd be... your brother & his wife are lucky to have you so close.

Hopefully this whole situation in Russia will help Ukraine.

I can't see how it doesn't.

1) fighting in Belgorod & Rostov is already dividing up Russian attention/resources away from Ukraine offensive.
2) outcome of this coup means fewer persons & equipment to defend against the Ukrainian offensive.
3) Putin is isolated more and all can see his grip on his country is tenable

Thank you. Unless they get in the middle of something in Russia now, it’s the border crossings that will be really tense.

Don't point this out! We'll get NATO nodding their collective heads and prolonging the war to score some points against Russia and to drum up that MIC cash.
