Halladay was so filthy when he was in his prime.
He kinda reminds me of Pedro... in that, ya kinda forget just how good/filthy they were for most of their careers... because they stuck around a couple years too long. Then they retire and ya get the best of highlights and ya remember, oh yeah.numbers wrote:Halladay was so filthy when he was in his prime.
With Smoak set to be their 1B, the Mariners have added Logan Morrison and Corey Hart in the last two hours. I swear they just don't care at all about defense.philpritchard wrote:Might as well lock up the rest of the 1B/DH types to back up Morales, Smoak, Morse and Ibanez!shinkdew wrote:They should sign Napoli.E.H. This is DUMB, I have seen Junior and this man is no Junior.

True, and I made the same complaint about them when the signed Fielder and were forced to play him at first base and Cabrera at third because they already had Martinez (although they at least sort of learned their lesson by bringing in Iglesias to help Cabrera on the left side). It's a similar situation with the Mariners now, since they have three guys who should DH, but one has to play first and one has to play a corner outfield spot. That doesn't account for Montero, either, (although he's probably not getting out of AAA) and Morales, who I can only assume they'll bring back when he realizes no one is willing to give up a draft pick to sign him.@SkitchP wrote:philpritchard wrote:With Smoak set to be their 1B, the Mariners have added Logan Morrison and Corey Hart in the last two hours. Smart move by MLB. Guys make too much money to get hurt on a play that's rarely going to come out different because the guys smashed into each other.Fuck You Jobu wrote:to home plate collisions.

but infielders can still drop a knee / block a base?vegman wrote:numbers wrote:So what is the base runner supposed to do if the catcher is blocking the plate?
I'm going to guess that the runner will be declared safe due to interference since the new rules will forbid the catcher from blocking the plate.
I just don't get how they say they're going to make changes without seeming to have a clue as to what they're changing. Its sounds like they're going to investigate changes with their minds made up that they'll make changes regardless of their findings. Doesn't seem like a great way to make decisions.philpritchard wrote:I'm interested to see how this is implemented. I love close plays at the plate and watching a runner take out the catcher is always entertaining, but I think enough careers have been ruined and seasons ended by these plays that this is the right call.
Four catchers make one McCann, right?Electromatic wrote:Braves trade minor league LHP Shawn Gilmartin to the Twins for C Ryan Doumit because having 4 catchers on a roster is how championships are won.
Do you have any catchers? NO, go fish.

Doumit's also a pretty terrible catcher.Electromatic wrote:philpritchard wrote:Four catchers make one McCann, right?Electromatic wrote:Braves trade minor league LHP Shawn Gilmartin to the Twins for C Ryan Doumit because having 4 catchers on a roster is how championships are won.

yeah I guess so. Seems like they enjoy using catchers as pinch hitters and as cheap as the ownership is, it's another year of control over Bethancourt if they don't bring him up until june.
Yeah I don't like this trade one bit.philpritchard wrote:Doumit's also a pretty terrible catcher.Electromatic wrote:philpritchard wrote:Four catchers make one McCann, right?Electromatic wrote:Braves trade minor league LHP Shawn Gilmartin to the Twins for C Ryan Doumit because having 4 catchers on a roster is how championships are won.
