the other day i went to take a bike ride and my tire was flat
weather was nice so i took it to the bike shop and went for a run instead
first run in a couple years
had stopped bc of ankle soreness
felt so great to run
got up early and did it twice again this week
3.5 miles each time
knock on wood
also did the first couple tiny sets of pushups in about 5 months
was healing from AC joint sprain
hope it holds up

You expect us to believe you're banging out 3.5 mile runs from the couch.
Lie to yourself, but don't lie to me.

i kept my core in tact all winter
had a decent series of stationary bike rides going
the basic elements were in place
it just needed a catalyst to erupt

I had a bit of a squabble with my older brother in our sibling group chat. Dude is a hardcore narcissist and is constantly telling lies to make himself look good. I finally had enough and called him out on it.
Turns out narcissists don't like being called out on shit. He went nuclear and I gave it right back. I shouldn't have said anything. Narcissists are just super fucking annoying, you know?

I had to cut all contact with my brother a year or so ago. Shit sucks. Family can really be a bitch. But I'm better off without his bullshit weighing me down anymore.

Yeah, he sounds like a real piece of work. My brother isn't a bad person, he's just a mega blowhard. I should've just smiled and nodded. Ah well.

re: the discussion above on narcissists and family
I have found that over time as I age, I have to cut ties with about one formerly good friend a year, because they just fall off so far
a lot of my friends in the past were about partying, but never stopped partying
one of them is a big narcissist and i just can't attempt to interact. it's like a finger trap. if you engage at all ever so slightly you get this 10x reciprocal never ending reaction. like they crave the engagement
but others sadly have just become bad alcoholics, to the point where they have lost their job, family, or even gotten near death. not a narcissist but selfish in that they just prioritized drinking so much they abrogated on responsibilities as a parent
just too much partying and too much crazy out there
between that and maga infecting 70% of the population, i can basically interact with about 0.1% of the population at this point without feeling unsafe

Damn. I feel called out by the over-enthusiastic replying bit. A lot of my friends who have young children are seemingly locked out of the fun bullshit we used to engage in. So when I get them alone I'm like "have you heard this, seen this, how about them Rockets" type shit. I'm probably annoying. Having no kids kinda rules tho.

There aren't any driving ranges nearby except those stupid video ones.

I feel very lucky to have two close friends I've known for roughly 20 years now and still talk to every day. I love them both immensely.
I used to think I wanted to find more friends, but eventually I realized what I really wanted was for the two I already have to live nearby so we could hang out in person. It's a bummer that they're far away, but we do our best to do regular FaceTime/WhatsApp hangouts to stay connected.
Between them and my wife, I feel like I have a strong and reliable circle (read: people I don't need to worry about cutting off, ha). My relationship with my parents has also become closer and less strained recently, and I'm grateful for that too.
All this is to say, I guess, that it's nice to have a small group of people who don't suck and disappoint in the sea of toxicity that this country has become.

yeah i'm down to a small handful. the closest live about an hour and a half away. the others far far away. at least we have the interwebs now.
making new irl friends not likely. don't have much time for physical interaction anymore. so many non-compatibles out there not sure how i could even find a compatible one.

I've made so many friends surfing and generally floating about the beach. Once in a while you'll find a cool person who doesn't think the earth is flat. It's rare, but it's rad.
