So I got to listen to Gigaton, while my friend who is a critic for an important music place, let me listen along.
She could only share it with me through her phone, which was an old school Nokia, but I got the jist of the album.
What made it more difficult was we could only listen to the album while submerged in a swimming pool.
But she really wanted my opinion, knowing that I was a Pearl Jam fan, and she was incapable of writing a review, because she has never heard a Pearl Jam song. And is really into classical Haitian Jazz Punk.
So while we were submerged, we listened to the entire album through her Nokia phone, underwater, over the course of 57 minutes. And it was shit I tell you. DOTC is still pretty great. But what I heard in those other moments while she was talking to me about her creepy babysitter was total garbage.
Just wait until you hear it. I will be justified in hating this thing
I call bullshit

At this rate I guess the guys are going ahead with releasing this as scheduled, and not postponing it.
As much as we all want to hear it, I wonder are they worried about album sales at this particular time.

Do you need to go to a large public gathering to be one of the 20k people who will actually buy a physical copy of an over the hill bands new record?

Can you drop the 'I'm better than the "tourists"' schtick?

Don't you think it's funny? The idea that 30K plus posts is required to have added value to this forum which validates your opinion over someone who has not contributed as many posts? The idea that submitting more and more opinions on PEARL JAM gives you seniority on the matter than say going to actually gigs or just having a subjective experience of their music falls apart quite quickly.
The resentment towards people who have not poured enough time into an online forum that has about 15 posters at most, and that the value they added is being taken advantage of by people who have not been here since the last album...7 years ago. Just as a comparison, the Foo Fighters Official Site forum was closed down last month. The infrastructure was not sold or the opinions of the posters used for market research. Nope, the switch was flipped and that was it. The subreddit shows that people were sad to see it go but that they had not posted there in 15 years...
Dime's stance is like someone from a place that was a hot tourist spot 30 years ago, which is fitting because PJ's commercial heyday predates the internet, but is resentful that anyone visits now at all. Like it's the "tourists" fault that it did not maintain it's relevance but not the people in the town or factors out of their control...like people having other commitments while also being major PJ fans.
Anyway, side note... SBWM has really grown on me!!

New posters/infrequent posters are a welcome and much needed edition to RM, and one of the nice side benefits of new music. All are welcome and I hope you all stick around and add to the conversation:)

Thanks Stip. While I'm not a huge LB fan, I love that you fly the flag for it.

I may not post here heaps but I still visit this forum quite frequently to read things that are going on and have done so for probably at least 12-ish years. In short, go fuck yourself

I’d also encourage people not to respond to/perpetuate these ‘conversations’

Apologies. I won’t comment on it further but I stand by it

Does anyone actually walk into a store and buy a CD these days though?
If anything i would think that digital sales might spike with people stuck at home and looking for anything new to digest.

It would probably get people talking, if it was released early.

I'm a very infrequent poster here. I don't resent anyone on here for giving me flack about it, I'm a little too old to worry about that sort of thing. I get it. If you've been here since day 1, and have kept coming back constantly, you begin to feel somewhat more relevant than the others, and I suppose that's understandable. Some may look at my account and say...."Jesus, he only comes here when there's a new album/time for a leak, he's just a wayward fan". The truth is, yes, I only come here around the time of a new album, and? I have a life as well, I'm busy, so when I do show up, it's because I love reading the excitement for that particular moment. I love this band, been my number 1 for the past 28 yrs. I've seen them live 14 times. I always perk up when I hear their name spoken by others etc etc, so assuming that I, or others are just bandwagon jumpers, is quite silly. No one here knows everything about everyone. At the same time, infrequent posters such as myself, need to respect the people that have been here a long time.
We're all just fans
