I've heard the movie is stellar. But it is subtle and slow. I haven't seen it myself because I've heard that the film is enhanced greatly by reading the book first.

I haven't seen it but I've heard that Anthony Hopkins is just great in a particular scene, subtly conveying lots of emotions by doing very little.
