He’s given two of the calmest, most understated, and straightforward speeches of his political life since the shutdown began, and in that time the wall and the president have both lost 6-7 points in the polling. Making this moment, when families are staring down mortgages, about his presidential bully-power is a total gift to Democrats. Even if he gets his way, his words convince no one and he comes out looking more concerned about Donald Trump than the people who are at risk.

lol
Ordinarily, C-SPAN is the only entity allowed to record House floor proceedings. But C-SPAN only has permission to operate when the House is officially in session. If the House isn’t in session and Trump comes to the floor and begins speaking, there would be no way of broadcasting the address to a national audience. The chamber lights might not even be on for Trump to see his written speech.

McParadigm wrote:This CBS poll is brutal for republicans.
Presidential approval / disapproval: 35 / 59 (new high score!)
Is the wall worth a shutdown?: 28% yes, 70% no
Do you approve of the president’s approach to immigration?: 38% yes, 60% no (including 62% of indies)
69% of independents want the president to sign a budget without border wall funding, and 1 in 5 respondents reports being affected by the current cutback in services or programs.
Another one:
The poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that 34 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance, down from 42 percent in December. Sixty percent of Americans say Trump bears a great deal of responsibility for the shutdown. About a third place the same amount of blame on congressional Democrats (31 percent) or Republicans (36 percent).
While partisan opinions of Trump have remained relatively constant throughout his presidency, the poll shows that disapproval has grown particularly among independents who do not lean toward either party.
Just 28 percent of independents say they approve, compared with 71 percent who disapprove. In December, 37 percent of independents approved of Trump’s job performance, while 58 percent disapproved.
Women also are more likely to disapprove today compared with a month ago — 71 percent to 58 percent. And 76 percent of college graduates disapprove today, compared with 65 percent who disapproved in December.

If I’d really meant it I’d either have written 3,000 words analyzing you, or just posted a tweet.

I don't trust the news or polls anymore due to the last 2 years.

This State of the Union beef is so stupid. I can't think of anything more pointless right now than making sure that goes on as planned. But Comrade Trump is going to make sure he gets his chance to have that spotlight.

Doesn’t the president have to be officially invited to address the house and can’t go if he’s not?
I’m sure this was a thing in west wing.

If he tries to go and security drags him out, he will be my new favorite president.

We’ve reached the point where friends who are federal employees are starting to feel it. None are trumpsters, but I’m starting to hear “just give him the wall and defund it in next cycle”

Isn't that worse, strategically speaking?

When an unruly child says “give me what I want or I’ll burn the house down,” everyone knows that if you give them what they want you’ll never have another problem.
