I'm not so convinced this is a false equivalency anymore.
All I can suggest is not getting caught up in the current hysteria.
It's hard not to with all the horrendous shit he has already done. In his first week!

I wonder if a centrist democrat who rejects the cancer that is identity politics would have a good shot of winning.

Nah. It will probably be someone promising free college education to rally the base.

But then again, I think anyone who isn't named Hillary Clinton will win in a landslide, unless Trump's policies prove popular. She was a uniquely horrible candidate.

Trump has no other skills to lead the free world. The things he is best at are the above things. If you voted for him, you at least support those ideals to an extent.

With all due respect dude, you're don't have any skin in the game (until nuclear war starts up) and you really have no place telling us to be calm when our country is going to shit, when it absolutely is. This administration is already fractured and ridiculously incompetent, and we're seven days in. It's not hysteria, it's being aware.

White nationalism is clearly present. I don't think many of them know what fascism is, but it's certainly on the precipice of this administration after only a week in office. I can personally attest to the fact that racism is still rampant in the Midwest--a huge part of his base.

To play devil's advocate, he obviously has a knack for real estate -- something not entirely useless when your country has a habit of occupying other countries. But while a scenario does exist in which Trump brings about an amazing new US economy, I don't actually think that'll happen.
The guy inherited more money than any of us will ever see (except Doug). Money makes money. I know tons of people good at real estate, its because they are rich. Im not impressed.

I don't want to speak for Trump's supporters and I would not doubt that there were many myriad factors at play in the reasons people voted for him, but if someone does not see the ugliness in many of the edicts Trump has done over the past week I'm not sure anything will ever convince them.

Next election, like the past few, will have to be a turnout election. More people against Trump have to come out then people who are for him. The important thing to keep in mind, I think, is however much real estate he sucks up on television, the majority of the country is not with him. Most people think he's doing a bad job his first week in office; that's fairly unprecedented for a country that always wants to give an incoming president the benefit of the doubt.

And that's probably why we're seeing so many of these things at the start; they have to do something to take the attention off the fact that most people do not like him. That's why Bannon and Trump want the media to be the 'enemy;' if the attention is only on them, it reminds people how unpopular he is.

Yea, but take the best real estate tycoon Vail has to offer, and then surround him with a bunch of foreign policy and trade experts. Listen to this NPR story from a few days ago:

The History of U.S. Intervention And The 'Birth Of The American Empire: http://www.npr.org/2017/01/24/511387528 ... can-empire
Ill bookmark that.

Also, we've seen the "Experts" trump surrounds himself with.... lol

That's the thing that i started with. The people dont like trump. A majority of americans do not like trump. Its embarrassing that "we" dont come out and vote. Thats on us. But for Bannon to run his fucking mouth like 90% of the entire fucking population voted for trump is insane. None of these people have anything called humility. They have no desire to bring this country together. not one fucking ounce of desire.

Unlike the people lighting cars on fire, punching people in the street, etc.

I had no idea how Trump would cope with the Presidency, I wasn't sure he even wanted to win, but he's been off to a reasonably impressive start so far. Early days, however.

me:

Does anyone see anything that is going to cause the two halves of this country to stop moving apart? For my entire adult life I've watched the sides move further away from each other, at an accelerating rate, to the point that now each thinks the other is pure evil. And I see absolutely nothing on the horizon that will stop this trend. I don't see either side backing down or being "taught" to come around. That won't happen. THIS WILL TURN VIOLENT. It's not if, but when. It's made all the worse by the fact that both sides are roughly equal in numbers. Ultimately I see either a war (though in this millennium "war" might look very different) or a peaceful division. That's the best possible scenario.

also me:

In a war between socialists and fascists, I can only hope the body count is sky high.

I don't see why someone would take the bait of comparing a handful of rioters in the street to the senior advisers inside the White House.

But to be fair, I don't really see much of a desire on the part of the left to bridge their aspirations with Trump's policies, nor should there be, really.
