A fan forum by definition is a celebration of a shared interest. This forum is not a fan forum, and that is fine, but it pretends to be one, and that is not fine. As a Pearl Jam fan, I really am bothered by all the snarky bully behavior that the haters show at this place. If you think Pearl Jam is crap, then for the love of God, find some other place to get your fucking internet jollies.

ST= Family Guy. Generally terrible, but occasionally smart and fun.
Backspacer= Cleveland Show. All terrible.
Lightning Bolt= American Dad. Mostly terrible. Has maybe one or two decent moments in the whole thing.

See what I'm talking about? I'm at that other forum too, and I'm not a fucking sheep, and I'm called that here all the time, not specifically, but as a fan.

If I want Internet jolies I must go to the pit and take the opposite contrary view in any given thread about how awesome something is. Then leave after a page or two.
Good way to blow off steam.

All joking aside, part of it for me is this:
My mother heads a local chapter of the parrot head club (they have chapters....chapters). My uncle has been a level XII kiss fan since before I was born. So I've seen a lot of how these fanbases talk and think. And I'm not exaggerating in the least to say I can find zero difference between the unquestioning worship and ridiculous praise they heap upon their respective heroes and the stuff that often defines the PJ community (well, there is less melodramatic weeping shit there, so maybe they are one up on us). But oftentimes, you could just swap out a few names and titles and leave entire conversations intact, transplanting them verbatim from one group to the next.
I like that there's a portion of Pearl Jam's fanbase that isn't just blindly along for the ride. It makes me respect the band a little more to have cultivated that unwillingness to compromise. I find no value in the alternative...it has less of a sense of humor, less inherent optimism about the potential of music or art, and it's realllllllly out of touch sometimes.
I once listened to a Springsteen fan basically say outright that Springsteen had invented the backbeat. And all the Springsteen clubbers around them nodded and agreed, because no one was around to laugh about it.

I can see that. If Family Guy was just Stewie and Brian, I'd love it.

"Look, nobody called me that in exactly those words. They didn't have to, you know? It was, like, implied. Totally implied by the...vibe, you know? Oh, it was simply awful."

Yeah that'd be a spin off I'd definitely follow.
Is that really Patrick Stewart doing his boss' voice?

I agree, but this has nothing at all to do with what I'm talking about, at least. And I don't think ANYONE here wants that.

PJ Chat's last chance to regenerate was Lightning Bolt. It was evident in the literally thousands of posts Harmless made in the album run up thread.....
- Spoiler: show
- and we all know what happened to Harmless
