Now that the Senate has shot down President Donald Trump’s compromise offer to end the month-long government shutdown, White House officials aren’t sure of their next move.

But they do know one thing: they’re losing, and they want to cut a deal.

The White House's new appetite for a negotiated resolution came after the administration managed to peel off just one Democratic vote — that of Sen. Joe Manchin (D, W.V.) — a fact that came as a particular surprise to Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, who has touted his relationships with Democratic lawmakers but lacks deep experience on Capitol Hill.

Meanwhile several Republicans abandoned their party to vote for a Democratic counter proposal offered by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that would have funded the entire government through March 8 without providing any additional money for the wall. That was a grim sign for Trump and his aides looking for a way to end the partial shutdown.

As Trump looks for an exit strategy, most Democrats remain dug in, insisting they will not negotiate with the president until he reopens the government first.

Introducing Pelosi in a closed-door meeting of House Democrats on Thursday, a triumphant House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) quoted Sun Tzu's classic The Art of War.

“Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win,” Clyburn said. “Thank you for winning for us. Now let's go to war.”

The Hill:
Frustrated GOP senators read Vice President Pence the riot act at a closed-door meeting Thursday, telling him the partial government shutdown needs to end soon, according to lawmakers in the room.

Republican senators, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), warned the vice president that prolonging the shutdown is not a smart political strategy, in hopes of sending a clear message to President Trump that he needs to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.

Lawmakers vented their irritation to Pence shortly before six GOP senators defected to vote for a Democratic-backed bill that would open the government without funding Trump's proposed border wall.

One GOP senator said lawmakers told Pence "the shutdown needs to come to an end, this is not a strategy that works [and] we never should have had a shutdown in the first place."

Ho boy
During the summer of 2016, STONE spoke to senior Trump Campaign officials about Organization 1 and information it might have had that would be damaging to the Clinton Campaign. STONE was contacted by senior Trump Campaign officials to inquire about future releases by Organization 1.
On or about October 7, 2016, Organization 1 released the first set of emails stolen from the Clinton Campaign chairman. Shortly after Organization 1’s release, an associate of the highranking Trump Campaign official sent a text message to STONE that read ‘well done.'

Sounds immoral, but assuming ORG1 is wikileaks and not the SVR, is that illegal? Lying about it to the feds under oath is.

Guccifer was actually 12 Russian agents that Roger Stone was in communication with while he was also updating the campaign.

Every one of these indictments is intentionally half a picture, so broader conclusions are an exercise in error, but the ongoing communications between Wikileaks and the campaign mean a handful of other campaign officials are also guilty of lying to either congress or investigators. I guess they could all be lying and panicking and secretly communicating with each other even after signing cooperation deals for nothing. That could be a thing.

You could be 12 Russian agents, how would anyone know? The Russia thing has always sounded like Trump's team was utterly incompetent and got played like fools and once they realized it their egos forced them lie to cover it.

And change Republican foreign policy towards the Ukraine. And fight to ease sanctions. And hand over US voter polling data. And try to set up back channel communication options inside Russia’s embassy. And scrape for any chance to speak with Putin alone. And ignore warnings about Flynn being compromised. Etc.

It takes a lot more knot tying to make that a broad range of incompetence than it does nefariously intentioned, but even if it was stupidity, *cooperatively* lying about being played by the Russians just de facto grants the Russians leverage over the president, and is something all by itself that would have ended any previous presidency.

Russia, if you’re listening, I hope in advance that you find the missing emails. Signed, an innocent incompetent.
