The Sox can clinch a spot with a win tonight, and if they do, this series against the Jays will probably propel the Yankees to the top of the AL East and into the top spot in the AL. Not the best outcome, but it wouldn't be bad to play the Jays in the Wild Card round if they're in freefall.

Aaron Judge has set an American League record by drawing 35 intentional walks in a season.

The National League record is 120 set by Barry Bonds in 2004.

In 2004 Barry Bonds reached base safely 376 times in 373 at bats.

I think Raleigh wins the AL because voters want to give it to someone who’s not Judge.

Did you know that Juan Soto is leading the NL in stolen bases and has hit a career-high 43 homeruns? He has half a shot at a 40-40 season. He's also leading the league in walks, OBP, and oWAR (according to BR). Just sayin'.

Those 60 homeruns from Cal Raleigh are tempting, but Judge's season is just too damn impressive to say no to.

Judge and Ohtani again, but Soto would be a fine choice. Not to mention seeing Kyle Schwarber win an MVP someday would make me so happy, as unlikely as it may be

If voters had any reason to vote against Judge (other than that he is a Yankee, which means more to fans than to voters, methinks) then maybe. But I think is generally well-liked and GOODFORTHEGAME. No I'll will harbored against the guy. His numbers are too good this year and the Yankees might just win the division even after losing their second best hitter in the off-season (Soto). Judge for sure

By the way, how the hell did Sosa beat Mark McGwire for NL MVP in 98? Seems like the wrong choice all the way around. What happened there?

This was before A-Rod was winning MVPs on a last-place team. The Cubs made the playoffs and the Cards didn’t, I think it’s as simple as that.

This was before A-Rod was winning MVPs on a last-place team. The Cubs made the playoffs and the Cards didn’t, I think it’s as simple as that.

Also, crunching the numbers a bit, their back-of-the-baseball-card numbers were extremely similar (HR, RBI, AVG) but Mac had 162 BB, which juiced his slash line way over Sosa’s (his OBP and SLG were each 100 pts higher than Sosa, so his OPS was 200 pts higher), but, again, we’re talking pre-2000 here, an era not known for rewarding those sorts of things with awards.

If Crochett pitches 8 innings on Tuesday I’m gonna come back into this thread with a lot more swagger but until then I’m a bundle of nerves.

Kinda sorta wanted the Yankees. Crochet had 39 K in 27 IP against them this year, a 9.75 SW/W ratio. Get that first game and they’ll be on the ropes.
