This photo makes sense now.
Ed is visibly triumphant, having once again asserted his dominance over the band’s creative process.
Jeff and Stone stand back, harbouring quiet frustration, Jeff’s arm around Stone in a show of silent support. Stone seems particularly troubled, his disquiet written large on his furrowed brow.
- Spoiler: show
- No, you bozos, I’m not serious.
Just disappointed.

Johnny Firecloud:
We've needed a song like "Alright" for a long while. Pearl Jam fans will recognize the beauty of Jeff's songwriting on this one, a la "Nothing As It Seems" and "Low Light". Evans’ programmed drum opening is reminiscent of a long-lost music box reanimated in the attic. #Gigaton

That's serious praise for Who Ever Said.
My man clearly forgot Brain of J, one of the very best things they’ve ever done

there's no way this album can be as good as all these writers are saying, right?

of course there is!
but at least some of this is first new music in 7 years excitement. Time will tell how good it is. But they aren’t athletes. No reason an artist cant still surprise you. the body doesnt break down. it just needs inspiration

How much of this effusive praise stems the fact that it's been so long between albums, and folks are just glad to have new PJ to review in these troubled times? Edit: Stip hit on it
Not sure it matters either way, really, but, these reviewers have apparently had a couple of weeks to sit with the album and let it marinate, so, that these reviews are all so strong is pretty encouraging

for me the most noteworthy thing is that most of them at least imply that they wanted better than the last two albums, and PJ have knocked it out the park; if I knew these reviewers loved BS and LB and considered them gold standard PJ, I'd be far less inclined to believe them

I mean, I haven't spent 7 years waiting for this, and I've read that sentiment a few times now

This twitter guy is gonna cause some waves with all this positivity.
I'm beginning to think it somehow doesn't leak, and if so, the hype is going to keep building, to the point that it will never live up to it...unless maybe it does...

SBWM is word salad is due to him fitting too many words and syllables into certain meters where it just doesn't really fit. Having to spit out the line "Focus on your focusness" really fast is an example of a clunky line. Another would be "I was prisoner!" It just sounds clunky imo. The lyrics aren't too bad. "This life I love is going way too fast" is a nice line. As I've heard it more and more, I've grown to ignore the clunkyness so it bothers me less and I can enjoy the song more for what it is.
The song is merely "Okay" is my point. I'm hoping for way better and I'm confident the album will deliver at least a few great tracks. Really hyped for Quick Escape, maybe Who Ever Said and Take The Long Way.
