then of course there's the shops open late that offer a zillion things deep fried, like a state fair crammed into 400 sq ft.

We ended up getting out of the Uber and walking. The driver couldn’t find a good route to the hotel because of the demonstration, and we started to get impatient. Google maps showed the walk taking the same time as the car ride.

We stopped in a pub so I could pee (turned into a relieving poop), and shared fish and chips, and a very tasty g&t that had peppercorns in it.

I have an Indian restaurant that I want to rave about, but we’ve reached our max for the day and are in bed, reading until we pass out. So I’ll save it for later. London has been a success thus far.

sounds like a good start...did you get out of the cab and walk along a cobble stone street with your luggage wheels clanging and everyone giving you the stink eye?

No one really cared about us and our luggage. It was loud and a pain to wheel 2 miles, but I will say that everyone we’ve encountered has been very nice. Everyone.

Last night we ate at the original Dishoom (Indian restaurant) in Covent Garden, which is a short walk north of Trafalgar Square. I think it’s north of. Turns out Dishoom is a chain, but it was damn good.

It was on my radar before arriving because my brother in law and his wife raved about it. We got there around 6:30ish and the queue was out the door, halfway down the block. Someone walked the line with an iPad to get reservations from everyone, and she said it was about a 45min wait. Not bad. Right after she took our names, my wife walked inside to scope things out. About a minute later she called me and told me to come inside and we could sit at the bar and they’d come seat us when ready. It was nice because it was slightly windy and cool out. No waiting outside and drinks? Hell yeah.

The place was packed when I walked in. It was dimly lit, and the decor featured framed photos of Bollywood stars. For drinks, I had something that was a take on a gin fizz, while hers was akin to a margarita. Even the house beer was good. We sat at the bar for the exact length of time we’d been given before someone led us to our table downstairs. Forgot to mention it’s two floors.

There was complimentary papadam with a few sauces and some chutney. We ordered the house chaat (so good), prawn koliwada, which reminded a little of tandoori chicken, and chili broccoli salad (very light, but good), things to nibble on/take leftovers.

My wife got a chicken curry dish - can’t recall which, and I got the black dal - so f’in good. Oh, we also got garlic naan. Food and drinks came to 140, which is a steal. There was just as long of a queue when we left.

We boxed up the leftovers and walked around for a bit, stopping at a Whole Foods to pick up snacks for whenever. Got back to the hotel around 10, FaceTimed our kids, and passed out while reading.

Our plan was to wake up at 7am Sunday to get a head start on the days events - Buckingham palace to watch the changing of the guard, borough market, and Tower of London. We slept until 9:30…whoops. More on that later.

There is a fish in me . . . I know I came from salt-blue water-gates . . . I scurried with shoals of herring . . . I blew waterspouts with porpoises . . . before land was . . . before the water went down . . . before Noah . . . before the first chapter of Genesis.

There is a baboon in me . . . clambering-clawed . . . dog-faced . . . yawping a galoot's hunger . . . hairy under the armpits . . . here are the hawk-eyed hankering men . . . here are the blonde and blue-eyed women . . . here they hide curled asleep waiting . . . ready to snarl and kill . . . ready to sing and give milk . . . waiting—I keep the baboon because the wilderness says so.

There is an eagle in me and a mockingbird . . . and the eagle flies among the Rocky Mountains of my dreams and fights among the Sierra crags of what I want . . . and the mockingbird warbles in the early forenoon before the dew is gone, warbles in the underbrush of my Chattanoogas of hope, gushes over the blue Ozark foothills of my wishes—And I got the eagle and the mockingbird from the wilderness.

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

glad you had a good dinner..my wife and I met 2 friends in soho and pub hopped and they suggested going to dishoom..we walked over there at about 6pm and it was raining pretty hard and was cold..there were probably 150 in line...we called our hotel and asked them for a good Indian restaurant in the neighborhood and we ended up going..cant remember the name of the place but the food was top notch..

Dinner at Jacuzzi - got a pizza with caviar on it, some scallops, and tartufo - so good, but I might be truffled out.
