Had two bottles of Bifrost by Elysian brewery (Seattle) last night. That shit packs a punch.
By the way could not find Pliny anywhere in Mountain View CA last month.

Headed to the Festival of Barrel Aged Beers tonight. Every barrel-aged beer you can imagine is there, including all the whales (e.g., Chocolate Rain, BA Abraxus, 2014 Bourbon County variants, etc.). This could get ugly.

Enjoy man!
About two thirds of the way through the GABF session this year I decided it would be a good idea to target barrel aged offerings. I certainly enjoyed a ton of BA barleywines and stouts but it did absolute shit on the memory; that being said Barrel Aged 666: Sympathy for the Devil was tremendous.

I just paid close enough attention to the beer menu at one of the bars I go to and discovered they fill growlers.

Im pretty excited about this, folks.

This was really solid. We had a our fair share of Goose Island Bourbon County. They did some cool things with some of them. They had the regular BCBS on nitro, some cold infused with Intelligentia coffee, as well as some aged in Templeton rye barrels that was absolutely incredible.
As for the 2014 Bourbon County variants, by far the best was the vanilla rye. I was little disappointed in the Proprietors -- it was a huge cinnamon bomb (I felt like I was getting diabetes while drinking it).
We had the Sun King Sympathy you mentioned -- pretty stellar indeed. No luck on the BA Abraxus -- it kicked about 15 minutes into it.
For us, the coolest part of the night was the sours. They had an outfit there out of St. Louis called "Side Project." They had probably the best sours I've ever had called "Rasp." I was also surprised at how good the New Belgium sours were, as well as a Bell's sour called "Wild One" -- aged in oak wine barrels. They don't typically bottle it, so it was cool to have on tap.

Yeah I visited that brewery years ago in Camino, CA. Good stuff but can't get it out here. They are still in business so they must be doing something right.
